I just noticed this from Engadget. The thing I thought was interesting was on the bottom of the cover.. "Only plays in 3D"

That is interesting. I might have to change my signature.

Since all 3D discs have a 2D version within by there very nature it makes no sense to not allow people to view it.

Something similar was mentioned with the (Sony exclusive) Imax movie 'Deep Sea', quote: "Under the Sea and Space Station will be playable both on 3D and 2D players. Deep Sea will allow 3D playback only."

Does anyone have any idea if this will be released in the UK(region B) at about the same time, or will this particular edition be region free?

John.

Default 2010 FIFA World Cup Film in 3D

My copy arrived this afternoon and I just finished viewing it. Action sports are made for 3D and 3D was made for action sports. I'm not a great soccer (football) fan so couldn't really pick up on the finer points of the game, and the film was chopped up into bits and pieces from the various games played on the way to the final World Cup game. In a word, the 3D image was incredible! Sharp, full of detail, depth and color. With 3D a new element is added for home viewing and it gives a major sense of reality. You can actually see exactly where the players are on the field and follow the ball in its trajectory. I highly recommend the disk for the 3D quality and added excitement. Basketball, American Football, Rugby, Baseball and I wager even Golf will be so much more exciting when viewed in the true realism of 3D. This will be my new go-to demo disk. (Viewed on a 4 year old Mits 57833 (first generation of 3D capable DLPs) with adaptor and a Samsung BD C-7900 player)

An excellent review, Quail Street and one with which I heartily concur. I also must admit that I'm not a great lover of soccer but knew I had to get this when it was released. I don't regret the purchase for a moment(even if it was rather costly for something lasting just over an hour) and will be using it as my demo disc of choice.

John.

Has anyone here seen this? I had seen it at my local big box store and I'd like to know what soccer fans thought of this.

The World cup was broadcast live in 3D on "free to air TV" in Australia, but this was in split screen not full HD like blu-ray. The close ups were excellent, but too many distant shots had a lot of ghosting originally. Samsung must have done an update, because I recently replayed my recording and it was much better but still ghosting.

With that said, our AFL (Aussie Rules Footie) grand final and rugby Grand finals
were also braodcast and they were HEAPS BETTER, very little ghosting, the cameramen actually knew how to film in 3D.
