USA Grand Canyon Adventure - Full HD 3D - October 26th, 2010

I just got done watching the german import. This is pretty impressive in 3D and has beautiful colors. The boats floating on the water is an amazing 3D effect. There is also very little ghosting in this at all and its never distracting. The movie itself is really short at only 40min long, but is a decent documentary. It was worth it for me to pick up the import as there are so few 3D titles to get but not cheap at about $45.

Thanks for the review. It's another title that'll be available on retail, so we'll be able to buy it soon. I can't wait.

October 26th, it's coming to the USA, from Image entertainment.
It'll be the company's first 3D Blu-ray.

I have it marked on my calendar. It's nice that these movies like to come out on Tuesdays, my day off work. I'll be waiting at the store when it opens.

I had a chance to see a 3D demo of this at Best Buy last week. But when I asked where the glasses were, they told me that some kids broke them and they would not have another pair in for a week or so. Kind of hard to believe that they only had one pair of 3D glasses in the store.

Oh well, I think it will be better to wait for the release date and be surprised anyway.

This movie is also posted below in another thread. I just recieved the German version and watched it. Amazing movie and very interesting also. The begining has some bubbles floating around that come literally right at you. My wife and I were sitting on the couch and trying to pop them When the camera is on front of the boat it takes you on a 3D ride down the river which is so cool. This is a must see movie in 3D, educational and very fun to watch. Oh, and I never really have listened to Dave Mathews before but the songs on this movie may all be new. Had a good sound track by him on here.

The tracklisting on the CD is:

Track Listing

1. Lie in Our Graves (from Crash, 1996)
2. Connecting to Nature
3. Steady As We Go (from Stand Up, 2005)
4. John Wesley Powell
5. Mother Father (from Everyday, 2001)
6. The Space Between” (from Everyday)
7. Grand Canyon Railway
8. Stay or Leave (from Some Devil, 2003)
9. Lava Falls
10. World Water Crisis
11. Two Step (from Crash, 1996)
12. On the River

There are 6 DMB songs (well, one is a DM solo song) included and they're listed as being rearrangements by Stefan Lessard and Steve Wood featuring Carter Beauford and Tim Reynolds as well as longtime DMB friend Richard Hardy, who plays Native American flute, legendary steel guitar player Greg Leisz and guitarist Michael Hamilton. The other six songs are new compositions from Stefan Lessard with Tim Reynolds and composer Steve Wood.

However the two songs from Crash (Two Step and Lie In Our Graves) are the actual 1996 studio version, so in dts-ma 5.1 hopefully they sound wicked cool. I will have to be on the lookout for this one.

Here's a rundown of the songs, DMB songs bolded, from a poster (Matias) on the Ants Marching forum.

Quote:
Basically it’s an acoustic/bluegrassy/natury/rock partial remix of some dmb songs.

1. Lie In Our Graves – Same exact version as on the Crash album
2. Connecting to Nature – Actually an instrumental Space Between. Love it.
3. Steady As We Go –A nice long classical guitar / piano instrumental version that goes into the album version
4. John Wesley Powell - CD is worth getting just for this really amazing instrumental track. Tim Reynolds + Richard Hardy + Carter magic in its full glory!
5. Mother Father – Highly remixed version with long acoustic intro and a completely re-recorded bridge/outro.
6. The Space Between – Album version with a flutey intro that sounds like it’s lifted from one of the nature CDs you hear playing at Target.
7. Grand Canyon Adventure – Another highlight of the CD. Nice bluegrassy instrumental drive with vintage Carter playing, lots of tension, almost flecktonishy chord progressions.
8. Stay or Leave – Album version with a harmonica intro. A little awkward
9. Lava Falls – Another original, awesome track. Instrumental rock with a solid Carter groove and great tension.
10. World Water Crisis – An instrumental track with a long emotional piano intro and a re-recorded acoustic two step intro.
11. Two Step – Album Version
12. On the River – Instrumental track with lots of different mood changes. Some interesting parts, but not very cohesive.

I know this is a soundtrack, but as a released CD it highly tickles my fancy. It’s obviously experimental but it would’ve been very nice to see this go more into Beatles – Love type territory. Two tracks are straight copies from the Crash album and most others only have an instrumental intro tacked onto the album version, but the small taste of great stuff on this album leaves me thirsting for more. All in all, the instrumental magic between Tim and Carter make it worth the download/purchase.

I like half of the songs, so that's not bad.

Just to let you know, I was at Future Shop in Niagara Falls a few days ago. They had a demo of Grand Canyon Adventure running on their Panasonic 3DTV... wow, what a demo! Crystal clear and very eye-popping!

Way, way better than the poor demonstrations at Future Shop and Best Buy in St. Catharines. They botched the 3D experience by not setting it up right and turning on Cine-Motion or whatever they call it these days. Looked awful. I believe they were the Samsung models though. They even had a rep from Samsung to demonstrate the 3DTV at Best Buy a few months ago, it still looked awful.

Just a general question. Has anyone noticed any ghosting on the German version of this title? I'm think of a particular sequence which features a tree in the foreground(after the steam train shots). On the copy I got from Germany this tree has serious ghosting problems(although it doesn't last very long). However, once that's over there's little else to complain about.

Has anyone noticed it, or is my copy faulty in some way?

John Aldridge.

Yeah, there's a ton of ghosting in this and any other 3-D blu ray. It's unavoidable. Most of the time though, you'll either not notice it or it'll be subtle enough not to bother you.

It's there, no doubt, but I envy that you don't notice it. Please don't go looking for it! hehe.
