I dunno about everyone else but all I see anymore is new releases being sold at $25. Alot of catalog new releases being sold as the same? Wtf is that about? That is to much for me anymore. And they are all coming with the DVD and Digital Copy. Who cares? Fine they want to sell more BD players by packaging them all together, well that is not working on/for me anymore. I will wait as long as it takes til these movies hit $15 or less. Its just not worth it anymore. I have got such a backlog of movies i want its unreal. Anybody with me on this? Comments...PLEASE !

Well, there is a difference from last year at this time. It was a very good holiday season last year because the B&M stores and online retailers were price fighting. As a result, the consumer benefited with great deals ($15 to $19).
I do not feel that the retailers are as aggressive with pricing at the moment. The average price on release day seems to be from $22 to $25. Look at the current price for Predators. At this point, I am looking forward to Black Friday for decent pricing on BD's. Last edited by coolmilo; 10-21-2010 at 02:30 AM. |

"BUTTLICKER! OUR PRICES HAVE NEVER BEEN LOWER!" - Dwight on The Office.
But seriously, I'm having trouble keeping money in my wallet because the prices are so cheap now. Amazon almost always has catalog releases under $20 and new releases around $25, and they almost always fall about two weeks after release. I love it! |

I just want to add, I am boycotting any movies with DVD's included. How is a new format supposed to take off, if they force you to take an inferior copy that you may never use. Just more wasted space, on my Blu Ray shelves.

How the heck do they waste space?! They're inside the same sized BD case! I agree with you in a sense as for me the DVD is pointless. I'd prefer to experience the film the way it was meant to be. But I understand not everyone cares about perfectly and wants to watch a film while they fly on a trip and don't want to pay for a second time just for a digital copy, or to entertain the kids in the back of a minivan. No reason for a BD there, the DVD works perfectly fine for the small screen. |

I feel like it used to be (esp. with DVD) that release week was the lowest a title would be for months. Then after a few months it would drop, especially towards the holidays.
Nowadays it seems release week can be the WORST time to buy! Pre-orders can dip pretty low weeks before release, and prices can drop considerably in less than a month after release, but actual release week seems to stink, especially at B&Ms. I find myself waiting longer & longer to pick up new releases. And I get more used BDs now, which can be much cheaper within a few weeks of release (after all those blind buys ![]() Basically, there are still great prices out there - it's just not as simple as it used to be to find them. Just be patient, and keep an eye on the Hot Deals thread! Last edited by HanaBi; 10-21-2010 at 03:22 AM. |

I think the stores have figured out that many people need to have a movie on release week, and a few extra dollars won't dissuade them. It's almost like the opening weekend for a movie. After that, sales start to decline, and a good price on week 3 or week 4 entices people on the fence to buy. Some people might even be thinking the best price is on the week of release, even if that isn't the case anymore.

For a BD I really want asap I'll pay $30.00.
For a BD I think I want I'll pay $25.00 . For any other BD's I'll wait for $20.00 or under. When work is plentiful I don't care, when work is slow I buy less. It's not a big deal to me to wait a couple of months for most movies. Ideally if I could get any film I ever wanted on BD I'ld pay $40.00 each and be VERY HAPPY (and broke). |

I have a hard time paying over $15 for a release I REALLY want. $10 or less for cataloges and stuff that I'm on the fence about. I guess I'm spoiled by having pawnshops were the most expensive one is $10 per blu Last edited by wormraper; 10-21-2010 at 04:00 AM. |

DJ, I see that you joined in Dec 2009. Is that when you started collecting? I am thinking you missed the golden year for pricing that was the 4th quarter of 2009. Last edited by coolmilo; 10-21-2010 at 04:03 AM. |
