Default Friday the 13th, James Bond, Masters of Horror, The Sopranos... etc.?

So, when are the studios gonna understand that the consumers want the complete "series" of something? Don't give us A without giving us B...

I've been waiting like forever on the rest of the Bond movies!!

It's all a ploy! Tease people, then shaft them for a few years. That's why I hold off on those type of series. Only exception is when I like a certain one, then I'll bite. But hey, like everyone says, one is better than none.

The economy is making the studios be very careful with releases. Friday the 13th 1-3 sold below expectations so we'll likely be waiting a while for 4-8.

Best Buy has 1-3 for 12.99 this week so maybe that will help move some units... but I wish they'd get off their butts and release the rest of them.

Ideally I'd prefer a box of all 8 Paramount titles...

As for Masters of Horror -- Anchor Bay has been slowing their release of catalog titles on BD... and so I expect we'll see it "eventually" but they are certainly taking their sweet time. They have a number of titles I'd upgrade to Blu for.

Night of the Demons (1987)
Sleepaway Camp Trilogy
Halloween 4
Halloween 5
Halloween (1978) - Re-Release
etc.

Bond at least has an excuse because of MGM's financial troubles...but I can't understand that 100% because we get crap like Trolls 2 instead. Now, MGM did release some other decent films/cult favs like Kalifornia, Showgirls, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Night of the Living Dead, but why can't they release the rest of the Bond films is beyond me. Don't these films already have brand new Lowry Digital restorations? Aren't the special features already done?

I mean, I don't exactly know what goes into the release of a Bond BD, but hell, I'd bet lots of money that Bond on BD would outsell Bull Durham and Troll 2.

They have the 1st and 6th season of the Sopranos, that's like giving us two peaces of the best bread ever and then were waiting for the rest of the sandwich.

Nice!

I was hoping for all seasons when the first finally came out (after I had season 6 for some time).

I agree with your guys. I am really disappointed about the Sopranos. I really don't understand the marketing behind this. When I watch a tv series, I like to watch it several episodes in a week until the series is over. I would have easily bought the entire Sopranos series if it was out in its entirety.

I'm waiting to, if MGM didn't run itself financially so DEEP into the ground the Bonds I believe would have been released. They will come when somebody either buys MGM or invests an absurd amount of money to clear thier debts.

Both will take time and we have no choice but to wait for all this to work out.

I tend to agree... that if I like one movie in a series I want them all...

BUT

This forum is filled with people who disagree.

How many people wanted Karate Kid but not Karate Kid II?
How many didn't want all the movies in the Star Trek sets?
How many didn't want all the Spider-Man movies?
How many don't want all the Back to the Future movies?

I see lots of posts where people only want the first movie... and don't want the sequels... so that definitely feeds into studios releasing one movie and then waiting.

The MGM debt crisis is pretty much sorted out and you've also got to remember it's not MGM who distribute the Blu-rays, but Fox and they're likely waiting until Bond 23 is up and running before more Bond Blu-rays will come around.

I estimate Bond 23 to begin shooting in January 2012, with a November release. A two year wait for more Bond Blu-rays isn't acceptable, especially when there's no work to be done on them - they simply have to be released.

The completionist in me would like them to throw the recent Sleepaway Camp in there too. But I would buy every title you just listed. Didn't they clean up Halloween 4 and 5 for the Divimax editions? I couldn't imagine it would be too hard to put out good looking blus for them?

*edit* NVM, Return to Sleepaway Camp isn't Anchor Bay.

Bond and Friday the 13th are just waiting for sequels. Unfortunately, it looks like Friday the 13th won't be getting one anytime soon, so future releases are kind of in a gray area. While Paramount seems unsure of what to do, I'm surprised Newline hasn't released Jason X or Jason Goes To Hell.

Then there are movies where they just have to consider the cost of releasing a big set vs individual releases vs just releasing the major title. I'm surprised that New Line still hasn't released any information regarding a Nightmare on Elm Street set. I'm sure individual releases for that would be a mistake, as most people (from my experience) seem to only really want 1, 3, and New Nightmare, but if they released just those there would be major holes to fill in that franchise.

TV Shows are just screwed all around though. Which causes hesitation in purchases for new seasons, which causes low sales, which causes earlier seasons to not be considered.

Historically, Paramount has dumped all over the Friday films despite them being moneymakers for them in the 80s. I wouldn't expect any more of them to be released until we get another Friday film. We all know another Jason film will eventually be made, just a question of when. WB is probably waiting with JGTH and JasonX also but I wouldn;t be surprised if theyhave these released by next year.

The Bonds are a question mark, and I have a sinking feeling like they are going to try and let current stock diminish and repackage and release everything all over again instead of just releasing the missing titles.

Warner said within the last year or so that we could expect one "Jason" film by the end of 2010 -- which I expected to be JasonX -- but it never materialized. Hopefully it will happen at some point, as well as JGTH.

but IMO if Paramount could put out deluxe editions of some of the latter titles on DVD, what really hurts them for putting them out on Blu, especially considering "The Final Chapter" is arguably the most popular title of the series besides the original.

I'd love to get Sleepaway Camp on BD. But I'd rather Universal or Lionsgate or whoever has the rights now to put Halloween II out before 4 and 5 get released.

Let's hope not! For all of us who have already bought the released editions, it would be a kick in the face to release them all in new packages... As a collector I'd have to re-buy all the titles to have them match on the shelves.

Just release the rest in the same package as the ones already released.
