Default Hddvd Movies 1080p?

Have a look at these titles:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...-releases.html

Scrool to the bottom past the blu-ray movies.....
theres a bunch of HDDVD movie titles have a look they have pics of the bac kcover of hte case.. at the top it says 1080p

THAT CANNOT BE POSSIBLE!!!!!

Proof:

Hddvd players only give an output of 1080i
Hddvd players only give Componet out...

Im I Right?

BLU BAY 1080p
HDDVD 1080p? NO. It is 1080i

(Have a look at the toshiba hddvd player and read the specs.)

HD DVD movies have the capability of 1080P output on the disc, but no hardware from the HD DVD camp as of yet is capable of outputting 1080P, only 1080i. One of the many HD DVD gotchas in trying to give you a less than optimal format.

Maybe second gen HD-DVD players will do it, but I'm of the opinion that there probably won't even be second gen HD-DVD players.

Because HD-DVD would have dropped out of the format war by then

The information on the disc cover shows at what resolution the video was actually encoded onto the disc. For most HD-DVDs this will be 1080p just as it will be 1080p for Blu-ray. As with Blu-ray, most people in the world do not have televisions that are capable of accepting a 1080p signal, so the HD-DVD deck must convert it from 1080/24p to 1080/60i. This is normal and it does open the possibility for HD-DVD to release players that output 1080p down the road.

I know during the Toshiba HD-DVD Road Show that their player has a section on the panel that says '1080p' on it, but has no light behind it, indicating that is is likely going to be a feature enhancement, perhaps within the same product.

NOT THAT IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOW BLU-RAY SHOULD CLEAN THE FLOOR WITH HD-DVD!

I can't see what difference it makes if films are encoded 1080i or 1080p due to the fact that there are only 24 frames per second anyway. If you were to own a 1080p capable tv I'm sure it would simply convert a 1080i signal into 1080p by storing both fields of a frame to then display it whole, finally repeating each frame twice. The outcome of both storage methods on a suitable 1080p display, would be that each frame is shown progressively and repeated twice. The only advantage I can see of 1080p is when tv footage is stored at 50hz/60hz.
