Default Sony may start download service

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070904/japan_sony.html?.v=3

Hopefully this is not the start of a service that would lead to HD, even though that would be years in the making.

Sony's being coy. The rumbles I am hearing from friends inside Sony is that they're well under way for delivery of digital content via PlayStation Network.

Downloads are great for a rental type of situation. But for my money, if I buy something, I want a physical copy of my own. Call me crazy!

You're not crazy for saying that. I think a lot of people here feel the same way about buying physical copies of movies.

Hey, you live near where I work(sometimes). Ever driven past SunFlower studio on Hollywood Blvd? It's by the Bazzar.

Does Sony even have that many games where you could consume the 80 gigs based on Saved Games? I only own 3 games atm.

Our 60GB is already out of space .. juggling right now until I can replace it with a nice standard off the shelf 250GB laptop drive We have about 20 games not including PSN - which is another 5 or so. 5 accounts for family members to track their own stuff...trailers, home videos, photos, music..it goes surprisingly quick.

Its more moeny for them then so be it. I know I will not pay for movie downloads. But it gives them another option and something on paper to match up to what the 360 already has.

I'm with you, brother. I like my DVD/BD cases lining the walls! I don't want to be the proud owner of a bunch of binary code that I could lose in a brownout!

Yeah I've been thinking of using the PS extender kit so I can use 3.5" drives as well .. I can see getting up to a terabyte in the next few years with HD home movies on the horizon..

A lot of people who predict that physical media will be obsolete in a few years don't get the idea of having an actual physical library to provide you warmth during those cold, lonely nights.. I pity them.

And they also forget that most the world (even most of the USA) does not have fast enough speeds to enjoy it anyway. Someone who has 1.5 MB DSL isnt going to be downloading 50 GB movies. Unless they have 24 hours to kill.
