Default About Blu-Ray Regions / Subtitles

Hi, im new to this site, but i own a PS3 since the rush last november. I have one question about regions for Blu-Ray discs. I own a US version of the PS3, and afaik the region for movies are the whole americas right? Im concerned about this region thing, because i see many movies i wanna buy on Blu-Ray but only a very few have subtitles in Portuguese, since im from Brazil and my wife plus some relatives have a very poor english, i can't buy Blu-Ray since im the only one who is going to enjoy it. I wanna support Blu-Ray and i know that many others in Brazil own PS3's too, but i can't support Blu-Ray if there are not subtitles for the my language and thats odd since we are on the same Blu-Ray region.

It's very possible that the US company does not own the film in your region

I mean that since they do not own the rights in Brazil, they protect the people who do own it there by not including Portugese subs to prevent imports

But, there is no official distribution of Blu-Ray here... Just imports, if u take a look on the movies that are now available you will see that mostly Sony Pictures BD have subs for many languages including Portuguese. Even Sony don't have it in all releases. And browsing till "D" i only found Disturbia (Paramount) to have Portuguese subs on it. Since the Region A includes South America, my question is, why only Spanish Subs? Almost every release have Spanish on it but not Portuguese.

Because Sony or whoever may not own it in Brazil

DVD Regions were drawn on the typical distribution lines for theatrical, for reasons of practicality, they were consolidated for Blu-Ray. If Sony does not own it for Brazil, then the local distributor does not want them sabotaging their future sales when they DO launch Blu-Ray
