Default When do you NOT buy BDs to replace DVDs?

I assume most of you have many DVDs & have not replaced all with BDs.

What are some reasons to not buy a BD if available for a movie you already own on DVD?

I can think of a few.

Don’t have the money
Don’t want to spend the money
My DVD has multiple discs loaded with features & the BD is bare bones!
PQ/AQ not very good in reviews
Waiting for it to come down more in price
Waiting to see if a new Special Edition BD with better PQ/AQ & / or More features comes out.
Decided I really don’t like that movie as much as I thought & only watched the DVD once.
Waiting for 3D.

Smile Imo.

1. The price is imo too high.
2. The transfer is crappy and could be better, like 1st Gladiator or Jim Carrey's Grinch.
3. It has no special features, Spiderman 2.
4. It's region locked.
5. It's an import that may be a pain to get.

When I can upgrade to Bluray I generally do. I won't replace a DVD that'll likely never get a bluray upgrade. I also don't upgrade my Criterion Collection. Maybe because they're just more collectable.

I can't think of a DVD I haven't upgraded.

Only one for me, blind bought (or not) the DVD but I am not interested in ever re-watching the movie again. As for the other ones in the OP post

I see them as the same, also in the end the third one (come down in price) is not a reason not to buy but just not now. For movies that I want fro the fun of it but that I am not realy interested enough in them (i.e. I know I can wait to see them) that is what I do (if I have them on DVD or not).

these I have heard, but I really don't get. If you have the extras from the DVD, who cares if they are on the BD or not, you want them you have them and you can see them, it is not as if an extra on a DVD in SD will look/sound better if it is the same transfer on a BD. I have yet to see a BD that is not better then the DVD and so for me it is simple, if I want to watch it, then why watch it in a less good DVD version then the "I think it can look better" BD version.

Waiting for 3D.
I can see how that can make sense in general, but has not been a factor for DVDs-> BD for me. Though I have skipped some new BDs that where shown in 3D but only came out in 2D on BD because I would rather buy the 3D then buy the 2D now and 3D later (but for movies where I can wait)

I've never watched the DVD, and I'm not paying $60 for a box set to sit on my shelf =P

For me......

“My DVD has multiple discs loaded with features & the BD is bare bones!”

This is a pet peeve for me despite many features being in SD. Main reason is shelf space as my collection closes in on 700. I hate having to keep the DVD as well for the special features only. I prefer to give the DVDs away. I just broke my ‘rule’ due to a sale price & purchased “Independence Day” for $7.99 @ Best Buy. But will retain my 2 disc DVD loaded with supplements & a booklet. Yes, I like some of the booklets that come with some DVDs & very rarely come with BDs.

“PQ/AQ not very good in reviews”

If I see a **/***** PQ review it lessons my desire to own it. My DVDs look very good due to upscaling. Of course, the BDs look absolutely fabulous. But, I recall years ago, when I 1st got a 42” Plasma EDTV to watch DVDs in 480p with my Toshiba progressive scan DVD player how good the movies looked and how absolutely horrible my entire collection of widescreen VHS movies looked. Almost unwatchable, especially since I had to zoom them due to window boxing. So began the quest to replace all my VHS tapes with DVDs. Now I am replacing many with BDs. <GRIN>

“Waiting for it to come down more in price.”

As has been pointed out, this is not a reason to not buy, rather to not buy now.
How many of us have pulled the trigger & then saw the price drop even more. I had this happen soon after I bought “Kick-Ass” & “Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition” -- LOL. Both before I even received them from Amazon. Yes, it typically is only a few dollars but, annoying none the less when it happens the next day or even a week later.

For me there are only two reasons:

1. The price is incredibly high
2. There's no PQ/AQ improvement

Having over 600 DVDs, there's probably a lot that I'll never replace, considering they will all play in my BD players. Personally, I'm only replacing the films that...

1: I really love
2: Never had an anamorphic DVD release
3: Will really benefit being shown in HD (or from the better sound).

I mean really, buying another copy of The Nutty Professor II to get a better picture... What's the point?
