Default Highlander: There Can Be Only One!

Anyone know who distributes the original Highlander movie? Last I heard Republic Pictures. I would love to see the first and only original on Blu-Ray. This one should sell well...

Fox did the original theatrical distribution

Then Artisan had it

Anchor Bay/Starz has it these days.

It definately needs a full overhaul before HD. The soundtrack is very muted, very 80s and the film was very low budget, so there's a lot of issues from that that will become glaring in HD

Yeah this does need an overhaul.

Come on, Fox.

Fox does not own the title.

They do distribute for Starz/Anchor Bay, but all production is in-house there.

The copyright is owned by Highlander Productions Ltd., and distributed by whomever they have a deal with at the time.

Actually, it seems that MGM has retained the rights to the entire Highlander franchise as of last year (2006). Check out the link below:

So it will be distributed by Fox after all.

MGM has acquired licensing rights to the franchise is what it says. Just like Fox has licensing rights to HALO

Think about it more like an agent with a lot of clout

If you notice the link goes to their site for t-shirts and crap like that

Disney still has Highlander 3 and 4, and Lionsgate 5

My guess would be that after BIll Panzer's death (he was the driving "on camera" force) that Davis doesn't want to deal with the day-to-day merch stuff anymore

I don't think this deal is limited to merchandising only. But not to worry, I'll look into it.

There may be future development in there as well, who knows. But given the financial arrangements that Starz has made around the brand, my sense is that they have a long term commitment.

I've called my people at anchor bay

I can't believe that the fifth installment: Highlander - The Source is gonna be shown on the Sci-fi channel. That's a damn shame.
It will be released by Lionsgate though, so they may do the original on Blu as well.
I spoke with some girl at Lionsgate earlier who is in charge of Blu-ray releases and she wasn't sure of Lionsgate will be releasing it on Blu-ray or not and that she would get back to me about that. Well, I won't hold my breath for that one.

The Russian licensee leaked it to the net back in the spring, its theatrical worth pretty much went zilch

You know what? It also has a problem with being freaking terrible, there aren't even any flashbacks, the bad guy sucks, and the ending is...retarded is being kind.

It doesn't even feel like Highlander

I hate it when some studio decides to make a half-assed sequel to a "cult series". I mean who forced them to do it in the first place? Have some diginity.
Oh well, at least we can always revisit the first 4 movies. Although, I'm sure I'll get a few criticisms for including all 4.
