This is something I sometimes wonder...What are the rarest of all blu-rays?
Off the top of my head I would guess the I am Legend steelbook. ![]() Perhaps some OOP titles. What do all of you believe are the rarest BDs? ![]() |

Good question,
I honestly don't count steelbooks because they are usually exclusive to certain stores. However I would say I AM LEGEND or The Hurt Locker for sure ![]() also I have never seen Zodiac in a store, lucky for me I was able to buy it from a member here or of course I could go to eBay or Amazon. Would love to see other input from members, I would say Criterion movies are hard to find as well. |

That initial run of Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains The Same. That got pulled just before it was supposed to be released because of a Cameron Crowe radio interview that was never ok'd. Some of us got it through buy.com and another online retailer or two, but that was it. So while the movie itself is still in print, that very first edition is probably hard to find.

Wow, I had no idea there were that many rare Bds already.
![]() As far as the Criterion releases I kind of wonder how "rare" they really are. One day they are selling for $35.00 all over the place, then it is announced that they are going OOP and suddenly the price doubles (or triples in the case of Third man) over night...there aren't really fewer copies than there was the week before the announcement. It's just that some people will buy all of the in stock items at regular retail outlets to drive up third party value on places like Amazon, e-bay, Half, etc... ![]() |

first issue of the "The Song Remains The Same" with the Cameron Crowe interview is imo the rarest US blu-ray.
It was almost immediately recalled, and only a handful got out. certainly much rarer than "The Third Man" or "Hot Rod" I have a sealed copy I got at Moviestop before they pulled it. ![]() I'd also say the first press Akira is in the top 10 rarest US bds for sure. who knows how many were made, but they were very scarce. I have requested the Digital Bits team confirm with Paramount which of their bds are really OOP, and we should have a definite answer after the holidays.
![]() imo Reds is not OOP; for one thing there is now a slightly different cover to the first pressing; just a slight difference which indicates to me a second pressing was done, but, of course, they could have just had some old discs laying around that they added to new artwork. doesn't seem very likely imo. imo they were informed that all stock was depleted and they had some more pressed. also: just because amazon has stock of something certainly doesn't mean 100% that it is not OOP. there are many OOP dvds that amazon has in stock. but like I said, I personally do not believe Reds is OOP.
