Hi all,
I just wanted to let people know that I found a cheaper alternative to Amazon.de for those in the USA (and possibly elsewhere) for purchasing German Blu-ray Discs: http://www.grooves-inc.com/ What's interesting about these guys is that they offer US $2.70 shipping, and free shipping to the USA on orders over US $27.02. This means that they effectively beat Amazon.de, who charges at least EUR 14,00 shipping for one BD or DVD to the USA. They also accept PayPal. I placed an order with them on 10 December (Friday) for Edge of Darkness (US $20.44) and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (US $24.39) for a total of US $44.83. The former item shipped on 14 December and arrived on 20 December. The latter item was shipped on 16 December and arrived on 24 December. Both items were dispatched from Switzerland and came in bright red padded envelopes with the company name on them via Deutsche Post. For comparison, purchasing these same items on Amazon.de today would have cost EUR 43,40 shipped, or US $59.14 (according to Amazon.de currency conversion), with standard (8-12 business days) shipping. Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me about those guys, I've bought a couple things from them a few years ago and the service was excellent.
And if your buying several things from Amazon.it (same flat rate 14 euro shipping to North America), they also carry several French and German blu-rays. I'm doing a group buy on another forum for 15 items, and am picking up a copy of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada German BD from them. It's 17.86 euro vs. 16.99 @ Amazon.de, but the shipping will be less than a euro. And be very wary of Amazon's currency conversion - unless your CC company charges you a huge foreign transaction fee, it's a rip off. I tried it at Amazon UK and they were going to charge me $1.66 to the pound when the rate was around $1.58 according to xe.com. Same for Amazon.fr, they wanted $1.39 for a euro when the rate was 1.32. My CC charges me 1% foreign transaction fee but I get 1% cash back so it's effectively a wash, so I always pay in local currency. Last edited by The Duke; 12-27-2010 at 01:30 PM. |

Another high recommendation for this great store. Beats getting shafted by scammers on Ebay charging 5-6 euros shipping on something that only costs 1.70 euros to send, or the 7-8 euros amazon charge! |
