No worries. In a few months you can just buy another PS3 and rebuy all those movies. Everything will still be supported.

A single bad announcement after months and months of pro BDA stuff caused you to pull your support, to the extent you sold your entire collection?

If so, you weren't really with Blu-Ray anyway, you are a bandwagonner.

That's your choice, obviously.

Only thing I'd like to chime in with, is if you don't have to sell all the back, well. Even if the 'format fails', you still have the earlier titles you bought.

Mate, in all honesty I could'nt sell up now even if I wanted to. I just could'nt go back to watching standard dvd's anymore I really can't. Especially my favourites that I've built up now in Blu-ray. I'd cry if I had to watch things like Apocalypto again on DVD now knowing what I had before. Even if both formats go tits up then I'll never get rid of my collection now.

It's always each to they're own don't get me wrong but for me I'd rather have someone I know go dual format than give up totally on Blu-ray. At the end of the day sales count, if you spend the odd bit on HD DVD so what, we all know that the majority of your money'll still go towards Blu product and in my eyes it's better Sony and co get SOME money from you for Blu-ray than none whatsoever. I know this is blu-ray.com but is'nt it true.. really.. 2nd best or not I could'nt go back to DVD even if it mean't going dual format in time.

Good luck to you though mate.. hope it all works out for you ...

I get the impression that your choice has more to it than just the paramount deal. Sounds like you might be going through some financial hard times? Anyways, the facts are that the Paramount deal has barely affected Blu-ray's momentum.

The sales figures since the deal are 56% Blu to 44% HD-DVD, which is down from 68% Blu to 32% HD-DVD... that would seem like a bad thing if it weren't for the fact that during the most recent sales week, Heroes and Blades of Glory came out for HD-DVD and what came out for Blu-ray??? nothing. Any yet we STILL had more sales than the HD-DVD camp.... I'd go so far as to say that in the next few weeks the ratio will be closer to 70/30 and maybe even 75/25.... Blu-ray standalone players are selling more now than HD-DVD, even with the higher price tag! Blu-ray is stronger than ever, paramount hasn't changed much.

You spent $2000 on a whim and you don't have money to burn?

That doesn't make sense. This isn't like stock investing where getting in early makes you money. Do you expect whatever format wins will net you a return on investment? I don't get it. Seriously, I really don't get how selling off 45 BD-ROMs and a PS3 because you don't think the format will win outright makes sense. It's just crazy and shortsighted.

Interesting you should backtrack due to the Paramount/Dream Works decision.

That is the reason I actually joined the Blu-ray group, buying some hardware and movies a few months earlier than I originally planned.

I could potentially see slowing down purchases of software if someone is "worried" about the format war. But selling off a PS3 and 45 BDs, both of which are already a sunk cost, makes no sense to me...

Can you explain that? I am interested to hear how that made you go Blu.

.... wait... you had 45 titles on Blu-Ray and a PS3... and instead of keeping those for the time being and not buying any more titles, you sold them? No comment on this one... I don't want to sound to mean.

All I have to say is, Character. Some of us are strong and others are just weak and afraid. It's ok to be scared, for those of us with courage, FIGHT ON!!!

this kind of thing happens in early adoption. Some people just aren't cut out to be early adopters. Heck, after SACD didn't catch on with the major record labels the way I'd hoped, I swore I would never again be an early adopter. Yet one year into this new format war, here I am. Blu-ray may win or it may lose (I don't see that as long as optical discs are marketed), but like SACD it will always be alive and well in my house.

It could just be he was in a financial bind at the moment and this was just the rational needed to back out and recoup some money.
We have all been in a tight situation when it comes to money.
You have to cut back somewhere, this was his cut.
When things get better for him he may jump back in.

I really don't understand coming off of blowouts like IFA and CEDIA and having enough FUD to be "back on the fence."

I don't understand your reasoning. Blu-ray still has the majority of big name studio support. As a reluctant owner of both formats (prefer blu-ray), the other side is going nowhere fast and I believe last weeks results were an anomaly caused by HD DVD fanboys buying movies that suck.

Blades of Glory sucked as a movie and I only saw it because I was on a transatlantic flight with a common movie screen.

Why lose money on pulling out by selling your stuff at a loss when Hitachi's Blu-ray recorder camcorders are coming out in a month to North America for around the same price as HDV camcorders?

HD DVD is effectively a read only format while Blu-ray has all the advantages of DVD plus greater resolution and capacity.

The format war is over and when these camcorders hit the streets, people are going to start buying into blu-ray on mass.
