I think each individual film needs to be judged on its own merits. Besides, there were 4 Alien films and 22 James Bond films (24 if you count the original "Casino Royale" spoof and "Never Say Never Again"). How can you compare 4 films to 24 films?

Its 2 Masterpieces vs about 13 great movies.
Pros for Anthology: Alien Aliens Amazing packaging Pros for Bond: Dr No From Russia with Love Goldfinger Thunderball On Her Majesty's Secret Service Live and Let Die (Moreso the Song) The Spy Who Loved Me The Living Daylights Licence to Kill GoldenEye Casino Royale Cons for Anthology: Alien Resurection Parkers death was lacking... lol Hicks' Death Cons for Bond: Diamonds are Forever The Man with the Golden Gun (minus Christopher Lee an Maud Adams) Moonraker A View to a Kill (Only because Moore was WAY too old) Tomorrow Never Dies Die Another Day (a well made film on a tech level, but that script... ) Quantum of Solace (I blame the editor and director) Lame Cardboard Box sets Madonna I gotta go with Alien Anthology, you just can't beat the first two as far as filmmaking goes, FRWL, GE, and CR are the closest to them imo. |

Tough question indeed with All the different Bond movies, various actors who've played James Bond, etc.
But, there are some Very good movies in the Bond series, & really, just the the first 2 ALIEN films are of Quality material (my opinion, though many share this, from what I've read here & in many other online/print locations). Pick 3-4 of the best Bond Movies & you could stack them up equally against the Alien set. This thread is prob. going to end up with more ALIEN votes; Mainly based on the love of the first two films. For that alone, I can't pick it. Bond has some good movies from the 60's, some from the 70's, & so on (per the list above, which is very good btw). Other than using the "too many to choose from" option of the James Bond 40+ year series, it might be better perhaps then to pick a similar 3-4 Movies series like the INDIANA JONES Films or the BTTF Trilogy, the TERMINATOR series, the DIRTY HARRY Collection, RAMBO or ROCKY series. ![]() |

I LOVE Bond films, and I own a few (I'd like to own them all on BD), but I have to admit that I was a little more excited to bring the much-anticipated Alien Anthology set home as far as a single purchase goes.

Well..... The Bond films don't scream out "Sci-Fi masterpiece" to me....... but at the same time, the Alien films aren't really great examples of "Espionage-action-thriller"
So I'm torn..... deeply.... deeply.... torn. |
