Default Anyone ever see a Red Bull Air race?

They are heading to San Diego on the 22nd and it looks pretty interesting. These guys go around courses in aerobatic airplanes. It's a world wide event, I guess we were lucky enough to get chosen as a venue.

Check it out:

I'd love to hear from someone who has seen one in person. I want to know if it's worth getting tickets.

I've only watched them on tv. Those pilots are crazy! I bet it would be awesome live.

The videos and commerical I saw are amazing. I wish I saw one on TV.

They are going to set up huge plasma displays for the crowds all over the area of the race. It's going to take 12 days to set the thing up and 3 to take it down. That's more than the motocross events in the stadium.

I think i'll go, it'll be something I never forget. The prices are a bit steep unless you get the general admission. I wiish there was a vantage point I knew about now (life a friend's condo). Should be a jaw-dropper though.

The real cool ones are the ones in Europe. They use the actual bridges as gates and the planes are whizzing down the river below the buildings. Absolutely crazy to see and quite dangerous I would guess.

They are going to be on the bay. The race course map is on their website.

I am at SDSU and a lot of people are talking about it. This is beyond an X-game. Check out the vids. I just hope no one gets hurt. I know their pros but they are racing against the clock to complete the course. It is going to be fun to watch.

I went to both days of the air races here in SD. They were fantastic. If you ever get a chance to see them you can go to the first day which is for qualifying. It is much cheaper and less crowded. The finals make the pilots race even harder. It is far more crowded so finding a place to watch early in the day is essential.

I look like a raccoon now, thanks to my UV blocking sunglasses. The right side of my face is more red than the left too so I am looking a little odd. I'm not as burnt as a bald guy I saw although we both share the same bright pink hue.

Seeing those planes sideways less than 100 yards away and 10 feet off the ground is beyond words. The wind was bad on Friday and one guy almost lost it when a gust hit. The power of the plane helped his recovery but for a split-second he was out of control. A few planes ran into inflated pylons marking the course suffering time penalties. The sound was fantastic as the 240 mph planes whizzed by.

Perth Australia is next on the list. If you are down under, definitely go and have fun, you'll remember it forever. Red Bull has an interesting new sport resurrected from the past. If you can't see them in person Fox Sports is going to replay the races. The schedule is on the red bull races website.

I doubt they'll ever make it there unless you have a large airspace with room for them to manuever. They used the Navy's airspace here in SD. It must have been quite a manuever to get the event going in it's own right.

I read the Australia race is going to be free. They are expecting 300,000 people.

Remember the polarized sunglasses and some sunscreen. I think big hats are a lousy idea as it blocks other's view of the race.
