Hi all, i was just wondering if any of you could give me your thoughts on this:
I fancy making myself a Blu-ray cabinet to store my ever growing collection. I like the idea of this but i have never made anything like this from scratch before. Do u guys have any tips on where to start and how to make it look as professional as possible? Cheers Rob |

I didn't think about taking pics while I was building it, but I tried to document it as best as I could with some diagrams.

can't really help, I built my own but that one looks complicated. Just would just go with a simple bookcase look (as shown by Rob and Zippo). I got my wood cut on site so I did not need a saw or measuring. I just painted on a wood conditioner, tint and varnish and then I assembled it.
I also used 2 L brackets per side for each shelf ![]() |

The cabinet pictured is a little more complicated than mine or Robs, but the concepts/techniques are the same. The cabinet has sides, top and would need a back of plywood (1/8").
For something that big, I don't know if I would make the shelves adjustable, but it could be done. I would anchor at least a couple of shelves to help with the stability of the cabinet. The others could be adjustable. If you are building a DVD/Blu-ray specific cabinet, then you should be able to find all the material stock at the hardware store. I don't think I put it in my page, but I spent $150 or so on the lumber. Tom Last edited by teknipper; 01-23-2011 at 04:27 PM. |

It depends. If you don't mind particle board, most times yes. But if you want real wood and/or something larger, you can usually build it for close to what a commercial unit would cost. Plus by building it yourself, you can get exactly what you want.
