It's cool, but the oversimplified answer to your question is: $$$$$$$$$$$$$

and $$$ is time.

i think we all know a standard that is superior to high definition is inevitable, but these things do take time. from reading through the article there're still a lot of things that need to be worked out.

i guess i would respond by asking why even settle for this when one could, potentially, build a full-motion gigapxl (www.gigapxl.org) camera. assuming, of course, that time and money are not factors.

Yeah, I saw one at Hi-Fi Buys (Tweeters) about 2 years ago. It was 50" ($10,000). The demo disc was incredible. But there is no content in it's native resolution on the movie market. So prototypes have been around for quite a while. As everyone has said, the real issue is cost. The other is, how close would you have to sit to the set to really see the benefits? I examined the picture on the aforementioned quad from about 4 inches and could not see the pixels! I suppose they will end up just making these into headgear. They already have some for your iPod, but they are only 320x240 resolution.
