Michele Soavi's Dellamorte Dellamore a.k.a Cemetery Man (1994) has received a preliminary release date: April 5th. Courtesy of Cecchi Gori Home Video.



Hal Hinson:

The hero is Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett), the watchman at the Buffalora Cemetery, who notices that the patrons of his burial ground are a tad rambunctious.

By Dellamorte's calculation, the dead remain in their graves for seven days. Then, for reasons that are never quite made clear, these zombies rise up from their mossy beds ready to rock the house. To dispatch the ghouls back to their side of the river Styx, Dellamorte must split their skulls down the middle. Sometimes he uses a shovel, sometimes a gun. Either way, the result is fairly gruesome.

It seems Medusa released an excellent DVD some years ago with both English subtitles and English audio for the main feature.

Pro-B, do you have any info as to whether Cecchi Gori's release will be at all English-friendly?

This looks like a fascinating film, even though I'm not really into horror, and I don't see it coming from the US or UK anytime soon...

generally yes they're (take for example The big Lebowski with also eng in dts-hd ma).

EDIT: there will be also 5 hours of extras plus the Soavi e Romoli comment that was already in Medusa's dvd

This is a fantastic film, and I really hope that the original English audio is present, though I don't expect the hours of extras to be English friendly. Anchor Bay seems too busy releasing current titles to do much with their catalog titles on Blu-ray, which is a shame, because this is a beautiful film.

Has anyone been brave enough to buy the Italian Blu-ray?

I haven't found anything to absolutely confirm it's English-friendly (Cecchi Gori's own website is particularly useless).

However, DVDLand.it are listing both English audio and English subtitles for the 2-disc DVD edition, so presumably the same would apply to the BD, although they don't list any specs for that.....

Not necessarily. The DVD was released by Medusa and the Blu-ray is Cecchi Gori. So we're not out of the woods yet.

No, this is a new DVD edition from Cecchi Gori. They're releasing it as a 2-disc DVD or single-disc BD.

But I think you may have hit on the answer anyway - they've probably just reproduced the disc specs for the old Medusa DVD, unfortunately.

...amazon.ca is showing the English Cemetary Man as running 105 minutes...this blu-ray version appears to be shorter...are any of the subtitles burned in...

I haven't got the Blu-ray yet, so no idea about the subtitles, but I just looked at my old Medusa DVD. Running time is 99 minutes in PAL, so that's equivalent to about 103 minutes in NTSC, which I think is the running time of the Anchor Bay Region 1 DVD.

I'm guessing amazon.ca's 105 minutes is slightly wrong. I'd be very surprised if the BD is a shorter version of the film.

Received my copy today.

Just to confirm the specs kindly listed above: Italian or English audio, 1.66:1, lots of extras (but none of them English-friendly). Running time is 103m 20s.

I thought this looked and sounded very good, and I'd recommend ordering a copy. There is an odd moment at 37.24 where the sound cuts out for a second, and then returns with a rather peculiar electronic 'thud' (the Italian track is unaffected). But I would still recommend. Big upgrade from my previous Medusa dvd.
