couple months ago the samsung player was announced to launch today, and several movie producers came up with promises for content at the same day.

but samsung pushed back their date to 25/6/2006, and all producers decided to push back their title launches too as titles would be no good with no player out.

i was certainly hoping that some other CE manufacturer would be happy to take the "first out" place out of samsung by releasing a player today anyway (sony seem to be ready with their player for example, dunno why they are holding up) but i guess it was just wishful thinking.

so we've known for a while, today isn't bluray day. if you had read the thread that you say you saw, you'd have known

today is instead officially AMD AM2 day!

@ georgir: if Sony's player is indeed ready, they've probably chosen not to release it in favor of putting all the blue LEDs they can get their hands on into PS3 consoles. last i heard, these LEDs were in a bit of short supply, and Sony had committed to diverting the majority of their own stash to PS3 production. this could also be the reason that Sony officials have suggested there will be a Blu-ray hardware shortage and that they may not be able to meet demand in the months immediately following the format's official release.
