Default Ps3 hardware

Considering that the ps3's cell cpu and rsx chips have made the ps3 difficult to develop for, when will we see games that fully take advantage of the ps3 hardware 100%? I know that I have read countless articles that say good and bad things. Some have called the ps3's cell cpu and rsx "a beast", others have said that the ps3 is not hard to develop for. It's just that the machine is based on new technology.

None of the poll options - theres always some way to improve efficiency in complex software like games. If the best teams at Square-Enix and Kojima Productions were still building PS2 games you'd see plenty of improvements over their best work in FFXII International and MGS3 Subsistence.

Obviously there's a far greater performance benefit jumping hardware to PLAYSTATION 3 now. PS3 software will continue to mature as long as skilled software engineers are interested and the benefits are profitable, similar to the PS2. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's only a couple of months off and looks amazing for a one-year-post-launch game. Resistance: Fall of Man to Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD one year later? Big improvements everywhere, not just due to the change in art style.

It all depends on the developer, I just picked up the Ratchet and Clank FTOD demo from gamestop yesterday and the game looks (and of course) plays amazing!

A lot depends on the individual developers... we have seen the full spectrum from developers saying:

[whiney voice] It's just too HARD to develop for [/whine]

to developers stepping up and saying it isn't that difficult.

It all depends on if the developer is interested in pushing the boundries of what the platform is capable of... and I agree with the poster above - Heavenly Sword paints a gorgeous picture of what developers can do, once they decide to embrace the technology, and it will only get better from here!

I agree...look no further than God of War and God of War 2 for the PS2. These, in their respective release years, pushed the PS2 harder and further late in the life cycle of the PS2.

Yeah, all devs believed that the graphics done in MGS3 and FFXII were impossible. PS3 hasn't been unlocked yet.
