Default When watching a SD show black lines right and left on screan

So I have a HD TV 1080P and the show is 4:3 aspect ratio that is why there are black lines on the right and left of the screan.

But the edges seem to be fuzzy and have artifacts. Some times on edges it red like it bleeding in from sun exposure. It is if the video camera the cameraman are using had problem at the edges but does not show up on a 4:3 aspect ratio do to the edges cut out but on a HD TV 1080P it show up.

I cannot use the set top box to zoom in or stretch the screen has people look really really really really fat ( and they are not ) or the picture on the top and bottom is cut off.So I cannot zoom in or stretch the screen .

And doing nothing I get black lines on the right and left of the screan and the edges seem to be fuzzy and have artifacts.

Why is that and what should I do?

Some shows for what ever reason have letterbox a black line on the right and left and top and bottom .Why is that?

are you watching from a DVD player or a Bluray player?

what video settings do you have for "DVD"?

for example, the PS3 gives you several options on dvd playback, as Im sure most Bluray players as well.

does your cable box have any options for 4:3 or 16:9?

There should be no fuzzy or artifacts of the edges that means there is problem with set top box or cables.

No network or cable provider by law is allowed to broadcast like this.

It not like this on every TV channel and some TV channels shows do this but other shows do not not. Some commercial have this and other commercial do not.

But by law no network or cable provider by law is allowed to broadcast like this.

And especially digital cable set top box .

I think I'm going to call the CRTC in Canada as this is not acceptable.

It is like this on other TV's and other set top box so it is not a problem with the set top box or cables. That means the problem is the network or cable provider .

I going complain the request to CRTC as this is not acceptable and is not allowed by law.
