Metro Goldwyn Mayer Casino Royale (1967)

Anyone purchased that?

It's a Best-buy exclusive this week and I just learned that right now!

Casino Royale Blu-ray 1966

Casino Royale Blu-ray Review

I'll try to find it for sure to continue my James Bond collection on Blu-ray.

Way to go Best Buy. They have no idea where their exclusive titles are stored or if they are, in fact, IN store! And way to go with the overcharge on CR! Now I know why I stopped going to Best Buy. BTW, CR looks and sounds great! A mess of a movie but no messy transfer here!
Thanks for the post about Casino Royale and specifically the transfer and audio. Good news!

Now if MGM would just issue the other 9 Bond films on blu ray!!!

By what standard do you say they "overcharged" you for CR 1967? When I got mine last week it had no shelf tag, was stickered $14.99, and rang up at $14.99. No "overcharge" there, though I wish it had been less.

Did your BB have a lower shelf tag? Did it ring up higher than $14.99? Or did you just WISH it was less than what it rang up for? (Remember, BB seems to be confusing CR 1967 with Casino Jack.)

My Best Buy had a shelf tag that read $9.99 for Casino Royale (1967).

One of the stores in my area didn't have a shelf tag for the Original Casino Royale at all. They just had it on the shelf. and the end cap with all the Best Buy Exclu titles did feature Casino Jack for 9.99.

I was able to get my price difference refund on Taking of Pelham and Midnight Cowboy but that was all. Looks like Best Buy really messed up their stock with the Casino error.

There appear to be two problems here:
  • All copies of CR 1967 (SKU 2781344) were erroneously marked with the SKU of Casino Jack (2288096), which is on sale for $9.99 this week. (Casino Jack is on the "exclusives" display but is *NOT* a BB exclusive; Amazon got it the same day as BB.)
  • CR 2006 is *also* on sale this week for $9.99. What's worse, it's the "Collector's Edition" of CR 2006 (SKU 9008469)--the same edition name MGM used for CR 1967.
Shelf tags that read "Casino Royale - Collector's Edition" are probably for CR 2006, *NOT* CR 1967. Verify it's SKU 2781344 first; also look for "(1966)" or "(1967)" in the description. (Some sources list CR 1967 as a 1966 film because its London premiere was December 29, 1966; but it didn't enter wide release till 1967, and its copyright year is 1967.)

I double-checked my BBs one more time; my experience matches PowellPressburger's. My closest BB had $9.99 shelf tags for Casino Jack & CR 2006, but *not* CR 1967; however, it did get two copies of CR 1967 (it didn't have them yesterday). I found a blueshirt with a pricing gun to verify the correct price; it was $14.99, same as the sticker (and what I paid last week).

No sign of Casino Royale (1966), not even a shelf tag. They were all sold out of Pelham One, Two, Three. But I got Midnight Cowboy and Back to School.

What's more is that the classic Casino Royale isn't to be found anywhere on Best Buys site. Hold onto your receipts they can math prices up to 30 days or 45 for Platinum reward zone members in case the price issue gets cleared up.

Default whole lotta stickering going on. Royale with Jack cheese

btw Casino Royale back cover UPC: 8 83904 23017 5 80 and UPC codes of both sticker covering the shrinkwrap sticker and the shrinkwrap sticker covering the back cover UPC: 8 83904 23017 5 81

(The front price sticker having the aforementioned Casino Royale BD name with Casino Jack 2288096 sku)

After explaining all this plus correct 2781344 sku to the Best Buy employee and she going to the back a few tries, she got me my copy

I hear ya! The music sounds great on the CASINO ROYALE 67 which for me is the highlight of the movie. I watched it on a 106' screen and it looked great.

Netflix has some of the missing Bonds on their streaming service in HD. (All the films up to LICENCE TO KILL.) The bad news I discovered tonight...they are not offering the films via streaming starting on 06/01/11. If I had know they were going to take them away so quickly, I would have made a point to watch all the "missing" HD Bonds!

From what I read thoughout this forum, CR 1967 IS also supposed to be $9.99, not $14.99. We both got screwed. I'm gonna stop by my local BB this week and see if I can get my 5 bucks back. I also will check to see if they have PELHAM in stock. But I gotta say, these exclusives aside, I'm done with Best Buy. I've had nothing but bad experiences as of late.

I found my copy of CASINO ROYALE 67 in the regular Blu section in the C's. The only copy I saw was the one I snagged.

The shelf tag I saw was for the 1967 version (right sku, list price of $14.99 and a rating of NR)

I've noticed this as well. Why is Casino Royale 1967 blu ray not listed on Best Buy's website???

Very odd.

This is correct. Just confusing that the CR 2006 CE is also on sale this week...

I myself am deeply jealous of you Americans. Casino Royale is one of my top "need to have it on Blu-Ray" movies! I just have the 2002 DVD release, with the Climax! episode included as an extra. It's such a fun mess of a movie. I love, love, love, LOVE Peter Sellers and David Niven. I hope this will still be floating around in July, when my parents go on their vacation, and it's in the 10-15 dollar range still. The PQ is way better I assume?

Maybe the fact they are being pulled from Netflix streaming is a good sign, that they are coming soon to blu ray? They are coming at some point soon. Either late this year, but most likely in 2012 with Bond 23.

So for Casino Royale 1967 did they use the same extras as the 40th anniversary DVD? I have the first Casino Royale DVD release. I noted in reviews of the 2 DVD releases that the Climax Barry Nelson Casino Royale tv movie was dropped for the 40th anniversary DVD!!! However John Cork did a new documentary about the film for the 40th..

I watched Maverick last night. I agree with others. The print is a good one, but it's not a reference blu ray at all. The color is much better on blu ray than the DVD. Picture is clean, but it doesn't jump out or pop. It's a decent transfer and it is clean. Thought the sound was decent too. This is the best Maverick has looked on home video and as it's from 1994 I don't expect it to be reissued on blu ray.
