Cool Fellow Canadians! please read

As I was making lunch for my son, I clicked on the news and there was a report that our dollar was trading today(Sept 20/07) at .9992 cents! With our dollar being near equal value to our neighbor's in the south, orders from US sites never looked so good.

Anyone questioning whether you can order from Amazon.com, well you can, and today would be the best to place an order and save some serious coin!

We'd all be hosers if we didn't take advantage of this now

Basically at par! Time for Canada to buy Blu-ray players

(I'm right near the border, and often going to Seattle and Van.)

Thumbs up

Who would have though 10-15 years ago that this day would come? It's nice to see though. Canada deserves it.

Order away!!!!!

absolutely, i'm gonna be making alot more orders from amazon.COM instead of going to the store, thanks to our bulldozer of a dollar.
here's my math if i were to buy underworld 1 & 2, blood diamond, 300, and casino royale (since CAD essentailly equals USD i'll make no distiction):

at future shop or best buy they would total $157 + GST = $166.
at amazon.com they total $106 + S&H = $120.

i hope that parity of our dollar will soon reflect in prices in the stores, but until then for a saving of nearly $10/BD i'm willing to wait for them to be shipped.

Sweet I'm going to go buy a few right now.

One quick question though, we get them for the US price times whatever the currency rate is correct? They're not going to charge the Canadian price? Because then I'd just assume go to a store and not pay shipping or have to wait.

I order most of my stuff from Amazon.com as I have friends in Buffalo so I ship to them.

I am ordering my new receiver from USA and probably will get a new Pioneer 50" KURO from USA as well - it saves me....NO JOKE....over CDN$1000 on that television.

For example - Panasonic here $3299 - there $2199

Even declaring at the border and paying duty, you still save $1000 on a tv.

Your credit card company will do the conversion for you - it still works out cheaper. Although occasionally you'll get dinged duty, unless you have friends that will bring it over for you.

I'm considering a new receiver now which is $650 here but $389 including shipping from the US. Some of the price differences are crazy.

Wow have things ever changed. I remember when our dollar was 70 cents US and we thought that was high. Wasn't even that long ago (~10 years I think I'm bad with gauging time).

Will this now mean that when you go between the US and Canada a lot, changing currency will not be so important? Or do we still have to change money?

You know what'll happen because of stuff like that right?

I think a lot of the currency markets aren't being faithful to the real economic picture. A correction down the line is going to kill a lot of economies.

Your credit card company will convert the US total into Canadian dollars. They usually charge a 2.5% fee, so with the dollar currently at 1.006 + 2.5%, you will get a conversion of 1.03, so a US $50 purchase should cost you CAN $ 51.55

The strength of the Canadian dollar (actually the weakness of the US dollar) is good news for Canadians buying from the US. But the weakness of the US dollar will likely make it more difficult for Asian CE manufacturers to reduce the price of hi-def equipment. So that's not so good.
