Arrow Oldboy (Remake)- Spike Lee Directing- Josh Brolin

Quote:
Spike Lee ("Inside Man," "25th Hour") is currently in talks to direct the Hollywood remake of Park Chan-Wook´s acclaimed 2003 cult smash "Oldboy" at Mandate Pictures reports Twitchfilm.

The original film detailed a man's mysterious kidnapping, 15-year imprisonment and feverish quest for revenge upon being released. Attempts at a remake have been underway since the first film's release with the likes of Justin Lin and Nicolas Cage pursuing one version, later Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were tipped to be teaming for the project.

Both previous versions fell apart. Signs of life began to seep back into the project late last year and now Lee's name has become linked. Mark Protosevich ("Thor," "I Am Legend") penned the script while Doug Davison and Roy Lee are producing.
This is one film where I hope all remake rumors eventually get squashed. So far, it's 2-for-3.

Ah, that was back when it was a Will Smith vanity project, right after Legend.
Now that Lee's back off the radar again (okay, name his last three films, without peeking at IMDB), maybe he can rehabilitate more "serious" hairshirt-martyr Smith projects into something more normal.

Actually I could see Spike Lee amping that up with the villian being white and racist.

The original is a classic nobody wants a BS remake.

Is Miracle At St. Anna any good??? That's one WWII film I haven't seen.

I'd pass on Miracle at St. Anna, but you should definitely see Inside Man. That's my second favorite Spike Lee film.

If he's gonna go with actors he's worked with before, I wouldn't mind Denzel, Ed Norton, or Dafoe in the lead role. Turturro and John Hawkes wouldn't be bad either.

This could be interesting. I don't get the Spike Lee hate but whatever. He isn't terrible like people in here are making him out to be. Yes he had a misstep with St. Anna but he had a good one with Inside Man and a really good one in 25th Hour. I could see Lee with the right actors, producers, and cinematographers, etc to pull this off. I wish people wouldn't dismiss the guy based on some hatred of him.

Maybe a lot of people hate those who make racially charged films. Especially when their particular race/ethnicity is at the other (I hate to say negative, but...negative) end of the spectrum.

Spike Lee remaking Oldboy? It will be watered down and barely resemble the original.

This is such a narrow minded and incorrect view of his films but whatever man.
He's made two 'racially charged' movies and one of them is one of the greatest movies in the last 30 years, Do The Right Thing. His best movie and a movie that needed to be made for various reason. I am more interested in seeing what he does with this movie then looking at it from some other perspective that doesn't pertain to this movie.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not one of the people I described. I like most of his movies that I've seen (Malcolm X, Inside Man, He Got Game, Do the Right Thing, Kobe Doin Work and If God's Willing and da Creek Don't Rise...I wasn't a fan of School Daze, and I did not like Miracle at St. Anna).

He's definitely made more than two racially charged films ("racially charged" doesn't necessarily mean it was hostile).

Jungle Fever
Malcolm X
School Daze
Miracle at St. Anna
Get on the Bus
Do the Right Thing (my favorite film of his)
Bamboozled

I guess we have differing views of racially charged. Movies like School Daze, Get On The Bus, Bamboozled deal with intraracial issues. I don't see those as getting a bunch of races riled up. Malcolm X was a biopic so I don't equate to racially charged either. Jungle Fever and Do The Right Things are the only ones I would put in the racially charged category FWIW.
