Question How do I know if MY system has good speakers?

I am using JBL speakers for the main left, right, surround left, surround right, and I plan to upgrade the center speaker this year to a nicer JBL... but all the other speakers and the subwoofer came from a Yamaha 5.1 surround sound speaker system in-a-box (there are a total of 9 speakers and 1 subwoofer). I don't know how to adjust the subwoofer, or if it is even a good one. It all seems to have good sound to me, but I am always willing to get something better. I noticed a big change when I upgraded the speakers to JBL, but I am not sure how much better it is.
The main JBL speakers are bigger than the others, and until I upgrade the center one, I don't plan on upgrading the others for a long time. I have hooked up 2 back speakers, 2 presence speakers, in addition to the center, left, right, 2 surround speakers, and the subwoofer.
The entire system has been optimized by a professional who used a pro-mic and various other settings as well as some demo discs. I think he did a great job for what we have, and until we can get the speakers in the ideal positions, the locations right now are decent (the surround speakers are a little below head level, rather than above, but I don't own the house and can't hang the speakers without permission).
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...9&CTID=5000800 These are the Yamaha speakers I am using (not the receiver, i have a better one than that).
http://www.jbl.com/ And these are the JBL speakers.
For the price, I got what I think sounded best, and had a good name.
Any comments?

I have JBL speakers all around and I think they sound pretty good. But to answer your question, any speaker that sounds good to you is a good system.

while your system probably sounds good, but to an audiophile(i am not one), it could use an upgrade. i'm sure i'll get blasted for this, but a bose lifestyle system would be you easiest route. everything you need is in the box. the question is will you be able to tell the difference between your jbl and bose speakers, odds are that you probably will be able to.

You will know by listening to a few CD's on your system, then take those CD's and listen to other speakers in the demo rooms at other stores of different speakers. If you like them more for what you are willing to spend, then your speakers are not good. If you like your speakers more then they are good. Simple as that.

That sounds like a good idea, but a CD doesn't support true surround sound. Should I run a film that has surround sound or just run the speakers in stereo but with all the speakers on?
Are there any demo discs that I can use to test the quality of the sound or things I can listen for in certain movies?
I know there are ways to measure the wavelength of a speaker, but I am not knowledge of how, or money to afford such a system.
I will try testing my system against a demo system. Thanks.

You never want to test speakers in surround sound on a movie. Always use a two channel/stereo CD. Any system will sound good enough on a movie. Music is what challenges a speakers. Don't test them with a sub, start with out a sub so that you can heard exactly what the speakers are capable of, then add a subwoofer to test it out. Try different genres of music so you can hear the different dynamics of the speakers and make sure to use CD's that you are familiar with so that you know what to listen for.
