Germany Angel-A by Luc Besson, Amazon.de exclusive Oct 2011

Luc Besson's small but loved film Angel-A has a third chance of being Region Free later this year.

(The UK release was Region B locked, and the French release has no English subtitles making its region lock status-- which is unknown -- irrelevant).

But the upcoming German version of Angel-A may provide cause to celebrate!

http://www.amazon.de/dp/B005EVJKV0/

Amazon.de (Germany) is releasing an "exclusive" version of Angel-A on October 28, 2011, and there is a TOBIS studio logo in the corner of the cover.

TOBIS is always region free according to this site...
http://regionfreemovies.com/studio/Tobis
...but that claim is based on only one other TOBIS release.

But by good fortune, it is another Luc Besson film: Arthur und die Minimoys (Arthur and the Invisibles). And according to Amazon.de, Arthur und die Minimoys has "Untertitel: Englisch" (English subtitles)!

This is looking good.

I'm tempted to pre-order just on the chance!

Of course I suppose there's also a chance that Sony Classics might be getting off its duff and may release a BluRay in the US at that time too, but I haven't heard anything about that.

This film is really good. A really small film, but a really good one thanks to the performances and the director's style. The visual quality is kind of substandard -- the film was shot in color and then converted -- but if you don't mind semi-low budgets, it is a fantastic film to see.
