Australia Scarface Special Edition

I saw this on jbhifis website:

http://www.jbhifi.co.nz/dvd-movies-t...lu-ray-titles/

It looks cool with the metal packaging and a whole lot of artwork to display.

Feel free to delete this thread if it has already be discussed.

Cheaper than Amazon UK, but same package, by the looks of things.

Between that and Jurassic Park, maybe the OZ pricing is improving? Or am I just getting my hopes up?

(Hilariously, Amazon US seemes to be asking $699.99 for its version, and claims the recommended retail is $999.99. That has to be a series of typos, surely ?!!!)

I think the US version comes with actual cigars though.

*actually it comes with something that keeps cigars at the perfect temp.

our edition is merely a boxset (not sure if its wood or not, probably not) that holds the films and other collectibles. the US edition is a handmade humidor (made of real wood). Its limited to 1000 units and dosnt come with cigars. this would not be approved due to importation rights since we are able to buy it here from the US.
These boxes can go for over $1000 so if its good quality, its a bargain for many people.

The US version comes with a DVD copy of the original 1930's Scarface, no other copy that I can see comes with the bonus movie, so guess I'm ordering from the US and playing the waiting game......

I will compare the price in some shops such as BIG W, Target and sanity.
Sanity is only $25 and target is $29 but not metal pack...

I love the film, but judging from the screenshots they didn't give it a proper restoration. Universal just loves to disappoint. I don't think I want to buy such a lackluster transfer. I mean it's not horrible, but it's really not had any effort put into it, and it shows.

You cant honestly say your judging a films picture quality based on screenshots? trust me, pictures never show the quality and with jpeg compression they cant be trusted as proof of quality. wait until a review comes out and see.

Although they shouldn't ever be used to solely judge the merits of a disc, the most definitely can point out when judicious amounts of DNR and EE have been applied or when a catalogue has the telltale signs of an older master.

I'll still be getting it as I want the film and I'm getting the UK SteelBook but it is very clear that Universal has once again used an old HD master with edge enhancement applied (whether baked in or applied as part of the prep for Blu-ray). They really need to stop doing this for high profile catalogue releases. Of all the studios they seem to cut corners the most.

Would they sell it to you anyway before the release date?
(I don't know, so I'm asking.)

Sometimes they do, if they have it there. I know for games they don't sell before the release, but I think movies are different.

Yeah generally there is no embargo on DVDs/blurays, just on games.

I just grabbed one as my JB usually gets titles on mondays and if you watched the you tube vid i 100% agree with the dude when he speaks about the Rambo grenade its looks bloody terrible lol anyway time to check out the PQ on Scarface me thinks. My local JB had it incorrectly priced at $69.98 instead of $56.98,just thought id mention in case other stores have done this

Cheers V
