Default JBL L8400P Subwoofer, what do you think?

I was at a home audio place about 3 months ago looking at it. They wanted "1099.99" regular price but had it on clearance open box for "399.99" and I thought "Oh, I'll find it cheaper on ebay." Not the case. Every now and then I find a "Buy it Now" for "489.99" and I'm really thinking about getting one. Any have any experience with them or recommend something else. This is a 12" front firing, sealed enclosure with 600watt RMS, 1200 watt peak. I cannot find any reviews about this subwoofer online.

If you recommend something then please recommend something that will hit very hard. I'm looking for something very powerful but trying to stay $600 or below. Was looking at the Klipsch 12 that does 300watts RMS, and 650watts peak but..... its ported and has half as much power...

Here are some reviews:

They are reviewed decently but I have never bought any speakers without first listening to them and that's what I tell anybody who asks about speakers.

If you're going for it, I'd make sure it has a warranty on it just in case the person who first open the box blew something.

There are so many subs that you could buy for that price. Rather than making a mistake in choosing subs, more people located them in the room improperly. Sit the sub at your listening chair and wander the room to find where it sounds the best for you, then put the sub there.

Other great subs Paradigm, Rel, Mirage, Sunfire, M&K etc. Don't let the spec game fool you either let your hearing and feeling decide. A ported sub requires less power to hold on to the driver.

thanks. I knew about the positioning. I was just looking for a sub that would "rock the house" since my 230watt peak woofer is not capable of doing.
