Default How do convert someone to BD?

Ok, so I post on a message board all the time that basically a University of Oklahoma football fan board. however this specific board is an "off topic" one. Meaning it's everything but sports.

A guy there posted this:

Quote:
"What will 1080P HDDVD look like on 1080i TV?

Is it even worth buying. I have two TV's that are 720P/1080i. Will an HD-DVD or Blu Ray even look better than a standard DVD on those TV's since my TV is only 1080i? Thanks."
He then posted this:

Quote:
My TV's are 37 inch and 60 inch.

I am referring to HD-DVD (toshiba brand player).

I do not want to invest in a new TV at this point just to get 1080P. My TV;s are not even 3 years old.

So a Toshiba HD-DVD player playing HD-DVD's on a 1080i TV will look noticably better correct?
What do you say to the guy?

Want to sway someone, huh? Give them $150 million dollars. That always seems to work.

Be truthful! Tell him that both Blu-Ray and HD DVD will look better than his SD DVDs on those televisions. Then go into specs between Blu-Ray and HD DVD explaining the capacity of disc's and bit-rate issues. If he doesn't come around to the Blu side after that, sorry about his luck.

I know you are on the insiders page all the time...use some of the information there in your post back. Also...above all--BE POLITE!!! Even if he sees fit to stay HD-DUD.

You can't easily convert HD DVD guys to support BD. Hell, no. It won't work easily. You can state the sales number, not just in US, but also international number. most likely won't work. Just like me, if someone tried to convert me to HD DVD, it won't work

And then if the knowledge that blu-ray is selling better, has better specs, technology, & studio support doesn't work, offer him $150 million dollars.

I love Blu-ray on my 46" 720p, absolutely. The difference is jaw-dropping.

Just tell him about the 4 pillars of blu dominance:
  • Capacity
    Bandwidth
    Sales
    Studio Support

I learned those right here, and I mention them all the time.

hahaha I love it. but you can't just give him $150 million you have to make it like a mail in rebate. ''buy this player and get a $150,000,400 rebate.'' then you just hope they lose the receipt.

i'd tell him about the movies that are available on blu. there was a posting recently that showed 300 on dvd and hidef side by side where its easier to see the difference between upconverted dvd and hidef. I would link but i'm on my pda and that takes soooo long.

To be honest I'm not sure why he's buying a High Def media if he's NOT going to display it at 1080p.

Of course that's just my opinion and I know alot of people are different. But if I KNEW I wasn't going to get a new display I'd purchase an Oppo upconverter.

Wow, great words. I would use this. Or having go to AVS and have his stomach turn a couple of times by the HDDVD guys, see how he feels after that.

It's what sold me too.

In fact, the first time I put a blu-ray in I just laughed because the picture was so freaking amazing.

I didnt' have any response other than to laugh. My wife and daughter both flipped out in a good way as well.

Tell him going Blu-Ray will put more hair on his chest. He'll be taller and more attractive to women.

Make sure you let him know that buying HD-DVD is like having an eternal wedgy, and chicks don't dig wedgies.
