Default panasonic tc-p50s30 or Samsung pn51d530?

Im trying to decide.between these two plasmas. The panasonic tc - p50s30 is on sale at best buy for $795 and the Samsung pn51d530 for $799. I have heard good and bad things about both so.wanted to hear from anyone who could.recommend one or the other. I dont care about 3D which why i narrowed my two choices these two. I currently own a 46 inch sharp 1080p 120hz lcd and am looking to shift to a.plasma because i have heard the picture quality is better than lcd. Any input would be great thanks!

I bought the Panasonic TC-P50S30 50" last month at HHGregg for $799 and could not be happier. PQ is excellent with great blacks and watching action flicks and movies with a lot of scenery look fantastic.

Setup is really easy and there are enough options to play around with to get the most out of the TV.

Best Buy is not my choice to buy anything over $50 as I have had to many poor experiences with them over the years. Your store may be better.

I would spend the extra money and get a 46" ST30. The ST picture destroys the S picture. I even went so far as returning a 50S30 for a 42ST30, same price at the time.

If you could stretch your budget I would get the TC-P50ST30 at Best Buy for $979. The S series just can not match the ST30 series in PQ. I know you say you are not interested in 3D, but a 3D TV will give you a better Picture then a standard 2D TV. (disclaimer: except for kuro's, this will keep the kuro nuts of me)

If you can not stretch the budget then the S30 is the better TV.

Best Buy has the TC-P50ST30 for $979 and the TC-P46ST30 for $999 very strange.

Nice find...I would have jumped on a 50" at that price a few months back.

I'd go with the ST50 for $999 also. But between the Sammy and the panny....panny everytime.

I, too, would recommend getting an ST series plasma (if you can afford it) just because they use the newer panel technology which makes the PQ on the ST displays light years better than the S series. Checked this out extensively at BB by looking at the two displays next to each other. No comparison.

Thanks everyone for your input! I ended up getting best buy to.price match frys so i got the panasonic S30 for $759. If i knew the sale price for the ST30 would have been there in another few weeks i prob would have waited but $759 was to good a deal to pass up. Ended up getting fast five on blu ray also which sounds and looks amazing and in my opinion the best movie out of the series. The pq on the panny is night and day over my 46 inch 120hz sharp i replaced. This was my first plasma set and i am never going back to lcd!

Very happy to hear it,Since most are leaning towards the LED tv.Iam glad like us you too love the picture quality of the plasmas. And take care not to allow static images for more than 5 to 10 minutes, for the first 100 to 200 hours.Since the phosphors are very sensitive during that period.
Wish you many years of happy viewing...

love,
kris.
