Default Zorro Reboot

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has tapped TV scribes Matthew Federman & Stephen Scaia to write the studio’s reboot of the Zorro franchise, which won’t be a remake but an origin tale of the comic book icon based on the 2005 Isabel Allende novel. It will be the latest take on the sword-wielding do-gooder following Sony’s 2005 pic The Legend Of Zorro, starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones and directed by Martin Campbell. Federman and Scaia are known for their TV work — their credits include Jericho, Warehouse 13 and Human Target and they currently serve as supervising producers on ABC’s Charlie’s Angels. They also just finished writing a Paris-set World War II action drama being developed by Chernin Entertainment and Fox Television Studios for cable. Zorro will be their second feature effort after adapting River Of Doubt, about Teddy Roosevelt’s 1914 trip down the Amazon River, for Jon Turteltaub’s Junction Entertainment. They are repped by CAA and Mosaic.

I love Zorro, but I'm not sure how I feel about a reboot. Although, I'll take this over that crappy futuristic version that was being planned at Fox.

True story:

I'm an aspiring filmmaker and one of my dream projects would be to do this hybrid of spaghetti western/Barry Lyndon version of Zorro, adapting the novel by Isabel Allende. I absolutely love the Zorro story and grew up on the Disney/Guy Williams series and The Mask of Zorro was a favorite of mine growing up.

I always pegged Diego Luna in the role as a young Diego de la Vega.

I'm not interested in a reboot (although this actually falls more into an adaptation of a novel) but this is far better than that crappy Future Zorro idea.

I'll take this reboot over Future Zorro any day. Futuristic Zorro is literally the dumbest idea that Hollywood has ever had.

I'm curious to know who will be replacing Banderas.

I think it's premature to say if one is greater than the other. I'll wait until they've presented a name for director before I decide. Hey, you never know, Martin Campbell could come back for the reboot and pull a Casino Royale.

Default The "new" Elena...

Don't know who'd play Zorro but Nina Dobrev would seem like a suitable choice for Elena.
