Question Have to ask this: Exactly what do Profiles mean? i.e., v1.0, 1.1...etc

Just read the article on the cancellation of the 2400 because of v1.1. I may have missed this one in my reading earlier - but what do the profiles mean?

...and I bought my Panny 3 weeks ago - should I return it and wait until this supposed Oct 31 date?

Now I got confused. Thanks in advance.

If you dont care about picture in a picture, then your fine. Personaly, if im watching a movie, i dont want a comutator talking in the upper right hand corner of my movie. As bootmay displays, wikipedia gives a good explination.

BD decided to create several type of machines created for different tasks. These types they call profiles

There is the BD-audio which is a machine created for audio playback, such a machine does need to be able to decode video and exists for high quality audio/music

There is BD video 1.0 these players are typical movie playback devices, these are all the BD players out so far

BD video 1.1 : any new video player introduced after Oct 31 must be 1.1 , these players must be able to decode two video streams, the second one being for PiP playback

BD live: this profile requires an internet connection so that you can access interactive net connected features.

Exclamation Ah

Ahhh - that makes sense.

So its really not so much of a difference unless Im looking for more as far as special features are concerned - regardless, somehow I think Illl return the Panny once the 30 days are up then wait until after Oct 31 to buy a new one - 2 weeks with no BD...!!!!!!

Thanks again.

it only affects new models, so it migh be a bit longer.

It's not like the ones sitting on the shelf today will magically become 1.1 on Nov1.
Only new models released after the deadline have to be 1.1 compliant.
