WTF? Reading that they switch between conventional DVD's and blu-ray discs. I wouldn't trust much of anything that is posted on that page.

It says "full high-definition programs on conventional DVD discs" and says 18 hours of full high-definition on to blu-ray. That doesn't seem right at all. Also it says "381 hours of full HD" on a 1TB hard drive. I have 1.5TB of hard drive space on my home computer and no way I would try to store 381 hours of high def video on that.

No it's one product. They achieve 18 hours by using the low bitrate mode (5.7mbps). That's using AVC - mind you I wouldn't use it for HD source and instead just use it for SD. Even with it being mpeg2 limited to 20mbps as the source, 5.7mbps is pushing it IMO. Original article source:

basically it works, but only in crap mode

Any TV recordings I did would just be the main 19.2mbps stream. Why re-encode and lose the quality? That's still over 2.5 hours per BD-25

The recorder also has a native mode where it just dumps the mpeg2 stream straight to disc if you want to, and can do higher AVC bitrates as well.
