Default New Yamaha v1800

I got it today, but I will install it tomorrow. I'm not an expert or audiophile, but I will try to post quick comments on here of what I think about it.

I got that registration card, but not sure if I will complete that.

Looks promising. What did you pay for it? Where?

About $1020 I think, need to look at receipt again. I bought it at Ultimate Electronics.

I set up the ypao sound setting system, the one that uses the mic. Set up my PS3 for PCM audio and hooked it up to the same 7.1 surround sound speakers. Infinity Primus 360s towers for front and 160s bookshelf mounted speakers for sides and rear.

I can tell a big difference. The actions seens in Planet of the Apes were great, the sound really kicked in and it had a lot of fullness. Even though I wasn't using the full DTS MA.

I tried the movie "Waiting" which is 7.1 PCM uncompressed. You can hear all of the background sounds really good, but doesn't impress a lot since this is a comedy movie.

I tried The Fifth Element PCM uncompressed 5.1. Not the whole movie only parts. Sounded great the parts I heard. I listen to the alien singing, and then the part where Leeloo was first in that regenerator machine. The sounds she makes were like I remembered when I saw it in the theather.

The menus show up on the screen, when I am making adjustments, but the volume bar does not. This is the same way my old V1400 was, so no complaints. Overall I like it and won't be upgrading for several years.

For you guys shopping for Yamaha gear: J&R is doing the 3800 for $1299, I didn't ask about the 1800 but that's a pretty solid price on the 3800 from an authorized dealer. Best I found anyway.
