Here's hoping this lot of Hammer titles does well so we can see some more in the near future. This and Plague Of The Zombies are possibly my two favourites but I'd really like The Devil Rides Out too. Well, I'd like them all but I'll take what I can get!

I understand that the DVD's of this have looked less than stella. It was shot in techniscope, & I've examined the original negatives a few techniscope films, & they're always in pristeen condition. The thing about (two-perf) techniscope is that you can't use it for release prints, so they do a couple of prints to get the grading (timing) right, & then print the anamorphic dupe to make the prints from...& the original negs go back in the tin & stay there. So it's all down to; did they locate the original negs for this release? Me, I'm not that interested, the two Hammer vampire films I'd love on BD are, the 50's Dracula & The Kiss Of The Vampire. Still waiting for an important Hammer film on Blu.

me too for that one. recently hammer have announced that they have found some of the reals for the extended uncut version shown in japan.
In the article they mention about a new HD print and also a further article mentions dracular will be released on Blu-ray in 2012 http://www.hammerfilms.com/news/arti...la-resurrected |

the ANchor Bay DVD of this is one of the worst quality DVDs I have (althogh it's not as bad as thier release of Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires), so I'll be glad for an upgrade. Got some nice extras on it though, including a really good commentary track. Be nice if they can port these across to the BD.
With any luck the coverart for the BD will be nice too, even by early Anchor Bay standards the one they gave it was bad. |

Oh man, Horror of Dracula is what I'd really, really go for. The BFI should release it in a spectacular Criterion-quality package, like they did with The Innocents (get some interviews and stuff out of Chris Lee before he pops off, touch wood). It would make a nice packet of money for them too, which they can use to fund restoration of more obscure projects

I shot some footage there a couple of years ago for a horror documentary. No real reason, but we were passing it, and thought we'd stop off and use it as a background for an interview as it looks so good on camera. TTDAD is quite and underrated film in my opinion. The lame ending that lets it down always seems to overshadow the pretty decent film that takes place before it. |
