Default Dreamworks now owned by WB?

I just watched the trailer for the upcoming Johnny Depp movie, Sweeney Todd on Yahoo and it starts with the Dreamworks logo followed immediately by the WB logo.

That's because they partnered up for that particular project. DreamWorks is still in league with Paramount Pictures.

However, they will be distributed by Warner Bros. outside North America. So you can expect it on Blu-ray in Europe. :-)

I thought Paramount was partnered with Dreamworks animation and not the acutal movie studio.

Wouldn't that be akin to Toyota letting Lexus make a car for Nissan?

Movie making is a an expensive business. Studios partner all the time to share the load/risk.

Paramount owns Dreamworks.

Paramount has a 7 year distribution deal though, but does not own Dreamworks Animation.

Sweeney Todd probably sports the logo of both because it's a co-production, meaning the two studios have separate distribution (Paramount domestic, WB international probably) and more than likely split proceeds and costs 50/50.

It means the movie is a co-production, with one studio handling domestic distribution and the other international, and revenue and expenses split 50/50.

Sorry, not an insider here, but that's the answer.

Backwards kinda. Paramount owns Dreamworks Pictures. Dreamworks Animation is independent, but is partnered with Paramount for distribution.

I found an article which explains why Paramount is incapable of worldwide distribution at this point in time, and therefore has to rely on a studio like WB in order to do so. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...4943d37b?imw=Y

Waterworld was the same type of deal. Co-financed between Universal and Paramount I believe...to some astronomical sum of something like $300 million.

it's just collaboration....
here is another example (my favourites):
miramax and paramount == the hours (miramax in UK, paramount in US)
warner and dreamworks == artificial intelligence
