anybody know if blue planet seas of life will be coming to blu-ray? i see a 5disc collectors version at best buy but i thought it would be great if it was on HD. since i know they do have a 10disc planet earth/blue planet combo.

If it was the series that was recently on the Discovery Channel, it was incredibly boring. I didn't watch it past the second episode. Well, actully I took in bits here and there. The incredible thing was that this was supposed to be a new show, but a lot of the stuff that was presented I had seen on other shows years ago. It looked like they re-edited some other program and threw on some new stuff.

I have never seen this and was wondering if it is worth it? I was interested because I saw Blue Planet II is coming out.

If you're into BBC nature docs and any of Attenborough's work, I'd say yes.

Just be aware that due to the source, the majority of what's on the BD is upconverted to HD. As such, it won't be near as stunning as stuff sourced in HD or on film, though the subject matter is just as interesting.

Not just that. The content/footage does not forego the rough parts of the life and death circle of nature like Planet Earth does. So be warned if watching with a young one

I'm surprised this forum isn't talking about the horrendous audio on this release. The first episode on Disc 1 seems to be normal, but then the second episode onward, the audio seems to come from PAL masters, and I'm even hearing constant choppiness with the audio, it's not a smooth stream. DTS-HD MA my rear!

I'm debating if the DVDs are better to get, but then I hear the DVDs back then had terrible video quality.

Well to be honest -- nobody's talking about it at all. 6 posts in 15 years and none at all for a decade? I'm guessing most people never bothered to get it. Even the few posts here are talking about it in 3rd person and I don't think they bought it.

Super late reply but the DVD's are a lot better. Just don't get the US release (unless you care about the bonus features). That version suffers from pretty shit video. I highly recommend getting the UK DVD's instead as the bitrate is way higher and looks a lot cleaner. The discs themselves are region free as well just make sure that the player you use is alright with PAL video.
