I just bought the new Fantastic Four Silver Surfer Disc and settled in to watch. A bright red screen appeared telling me that my player was not capable of reading the disc and I should download the latest firmware. This is a brand new player. I hooked it to my ethernet cable and the results were that I already have the latest version of firmware. The player works great on upconvert and the other Blu Rays I have work fine. What am I missing?

Whether it's BD+ or BD-J, it does need a firmware update and the firmware currently on the website (as of this moment) will not resolve this. I've already progressed thru executive customer support and they've promised an estimate for the update by tomorrow AM. More as I know more, though all 1200 owners are welcome to add their voices to the complaint. Call 800 522 7341 (Samsung executive CR direct line).

We have been talking about this in the BD-P1200 Player sticky message as well. I too was not very happy last night when I slid into my chair to watch this movie. I emailed them and told them that customers shouldn't have to be troubleshooting or testing new movies for them. Firmware upgrades are fine with me, but not having one ready is not.

On the other hand, I highly recommend a PS3 for anyone who has not bought a standalone player, even though good standalone players have been proven to offer a "slightly" better picture quality, when I say slightly, its more like "you won't notice it - slightly - unless you have miscrospic eyes" |

This issue was especially bad for me because in general hardware and software manufacturers are pushing QA on their customers. We know Fantastic Four was pressed a while back, because some people mentioned that Walmart put them on the shelves by accident earlier than 10/2. So you know that Samsung could get copies for testing. This is a major release, and one that will drive sales of their players. The BD-P1200 is still on the market, and not obsolete where one could expect a slight delay. As the previous poster mentioned, literally someone could have picked up a 1200 and FF in the store yesterday only to find it would not play.
Very much looking forward to the firmware upgrade. |

This is B$ and this attitude will kill the format quicker than anything the "other" guys can make up.
The BDA needs to have their act together and coordinate these features in a timely manner. Having the consumer deal with this is not good customer service and only serves to leave a sour taste in people's mouths. ![]() |

I'll remember that the next time someone asks why the BDA doesn't have an answer for something the other side does. ![]() Anyway, I'm sure I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill and I hope Samsung posts a fix quickly. ![]() |

what i don't understand why couldn't it be mandatory for all BD players to carry same features as the PS3, except playing games and HDD? this way there wouldn't be a compatibility issue. so far the PS3 proved to be the best BD player available in the market with no problems.

![]() Were I agree with you it is the CE's fault, but it is the BDA's problem. I am unhappy I can't watch the new movies right now since they are here. I know a firmware update will be here soon. It is could be a PR nightmare. Since it appears to be only a few players and the marketplace is not that big. It will not be a big deal. But if this say happens on Christmas day with people that have bought players and they go to put in POTC:3. It could hurt. It will be bad enough all those people that will not know to download firmware to begin with but once they do and if something does not play that is a giant black eye for the format. Remember a unhappy person will affect 100 or more people. |

its down to samsung, they would have had a disk to play a long time ago, and i think someone said panasonics test center would have flagged up the problem for samsung? they just need to get their collective firmware fingers out.

I might be posting in the wrong thread, but I can not watch my FF2 yet. I have Samsumg BDP1200 and I just talked to a guy at Samsung and they are still trying to work on a firmware for it. I was ready to watch it but guess I will have to wait.
