Why did you think this would never be released? Criterion almost always finds a way!

I figured that with all the controversy surrounding the movie, no company would want to burden themselves with the release.

I admit I had hoped to see 'The King of Comedy' get a release before this, but after that, 'The Last Temptation of Christ' is the Scorsese film I'm most looking forward to experiencing on Blu-ray.

This is one that I've been waiting for Criterion to upgrade. Was very excited to hear the announcement last month. I'm sure that Scorsese and Ballhaus will be invited to approve the transfer.

I hadn't heard about this. Which line was missing?

Anyway, I was really excited to hear the news a while back about this title coming. It's the Criterion upgrade I've been most looking forward to. A part of me wishes they'd extend the behind-the-scenes documentary shot by Scorsese since I'm sure he's got more onset footage than that, but I'll just be happy to own this in HD.

Now where's The King of Kings, Criterion?

Woohoo! Now if we can just get Passion of Joan of Arc, my Easter will be complete.

It's a line spoken my Keitel when they see Mary again. He says "It's Mary Magdalane," and his lips move (and the line shows up on the subtitles), but there is no audio present. A minor thing, but a mistake regardless.

My problem with this movie is that I read the Kazantzakis book, which is brilliant. And I believe Scorsese misfired in many ways. But maybe I should give it another try and not compare it to the book so directly. The price isn't too bad.

I still believe the power of the book remains largely untapped, and someone else should take a whack at adapting it for film. But with that comes all the controversy. I don't think a major studio or an established director would want to take that on.

I just picked this up through the Deep Discount $14.99 sale. Really looking forward to seeing this. I remember all the drama over the release but I was 18 at the time and this was not on my radar to go see.

Criterion's Three Reasons:

My Three Reasons:
The low budget realism
Peter Gabriel's score
