Default Elite Squad 1 or 2 coming out February 14th 2012? Review

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within Blu-ray Feb 14, 2012

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within Blu-ray Review

Well seems like it's out in the UK and the review is also very nice for the PQ and AQ of it. I loved the movie and would purchase it immediately, Amazon.com is saying the manufacturer has discontinued it. The DVD version of the movie is already out....Please tell me there are still plans to bring this movie out in the US, I would import it but it won't play on my PS3 as it's a different region. Any info?

Unfortunately, a US Blu-ray release isn't planned and the Optimum disc is indeed the only one currently available on the market. As I noted in the review, it is also Region-B "locked" so it will not play in your US PS3 or SA.

That really sucks, is there any reason why the US release was canceled? I mean Weistein released the DVD on October 28, 2008....:/ To make matters worse I can't find it released in Brazil as that would be the same region as the US. Hopefully this is just a case of Weinstein being lazy with their Blu release (known to happen).

Actually, a US release was never planned. The disc that you see on Amazon's US site is Optimum's BD and it was incorrectly labeled upcoming US release. To sum it all up, Elite Squad isn't coming to the US for the same reason Eden Lake, isn't - Weinstein's decision.

WOW! There's just something wrong when a movie this good does not come out here in the states! I've been patiently waiting for news of the eventual BD, region A release of this bad boy and this news plain sucks!

Man, this movie is an absolute gem that kicked my a s s when I first saw it! Knew nothing about this film other than the synopsis on the netflix sleeve...came away as one of my fave flicks that I watched last year. I was really hoping to get this on Blu...too bad it won't see the light of day here. Very intense film that's a must see/belongs at the top of your que for any and all movie fans.

Default Elite Squad 1 or 2 coming out February 14th 2012?

Months ago, this website posted news of Elite Squad coming out on BD on 02/14/12 and I immediately pre-ordered it on Amazon, relieved that I didn't have to import it from HK. However, I just noticed that despite my preorder stating Elite Squad, clicking on the link takes me to Elite Squad: The Enemy Within product information and reviews, and that's the title of the sequel. The main heading on the page simply states Elite Squad but has a pic and information of the sequel so it's confusing as to which part is being released in the U.S. I love the sequel even more than the brilliant first one but I need to know which is actually being released. I sent an e-mail to New Video Group, the studio releasing the BD but haven't received a response yet. Do any of you know?

I've heard it's the sequel, but don't quote me on it, I read it on here somewhere.

Kakihara,

The initial info that went out was for the original. However, what is being released in February is the second film. The error is with Amazon because they had two separate listings, and they appear to have been merged now.

Yeah I do a review podcast and am in contact with people at New Video's press dept. Only Elite Squad: The Enemy Within is being released.

Looks like I'm going to cancel this preorder and get the region free UK release because this one doesn't have the OAR. It was filmed to be screened at 1.85:1 and this release has opened it up a little at 1.78:1. I want the director's intent. In addition, the U.S. release doesn't have the trailer while the UK does PLUS the same "making of" documentary. Wish I knew alot earlier, though, but I'm glad the U.S. Elite Squad: The Enemy Within Blu-ray Review has been posted already.

Can anyone confirm whether the US disc is region A locked? I live in Europe but I'd like to have the US disc for the documentary. Also, are the subtitles burned in or are you also able to turn them off?

Just finished watching Elite Squad : The Enemy Within...Wow, what a great movie. I hope Elite Squad 1 is not too far behind from being released.

If you haven't seen the first one yet, I would suggest to temper your expectations. Just finished watching it, and having seen Enemies Within earlier in the week it's staggering what a jump in quality this series went through. The first one is less focused, the direction more amateurish and its simply a lot more shallow of a film. All the critiques of it being a "facism, **** yeah" movie also ring pretty true. While it doesn't sugarcoat showing how rough the BOPE tactics are (baggings are very common), all the citizens contesting their excessive force are shown as Rio's yuppies or shitty potheads.

Was really impressed with Enemy Within though, loved how it was able to dole out political views without being preachy via Fraga or overly parodic(at least from my impression) with Fortunato's tv personality.

Only a commie punk can say something that. The sequel is CRAP. Utter drivel compared to the original. Utterly illogical screenplay, the characters suddenly make no sense, contrived political message, flat out boring. Add to it constantly shaking camera and you have a POS with a pretentious political message.

The original is flat out great movie. Not because it's action packed (it is), but because it faithfully depicts the slum and drug war reality. Great screenplay, great acting, great directing.

Btw, I got the UK blu-ray release. Apparently better because it preserves the original AR. Great PQ/AQ. The only positive thing to say about it. Anyone want to buy it to verify for themselves?
