Wii--Blue light??

We just got a new Wii and a bright blue light comes on around the opening,where you slide the disk in,about ten minutes after we turn it off!!
Is this normal??..We have unplugged it,turned it off,etc..but it just keeps coming back on???

It probably means you need to do an update or have an unread message. I'd check for any updates that need to be downloaded and for unread messages and that should take care of it.
