New Info has come forth on the box set courtesy of http://www.tvshowsondvd.com

This limited edition boxed set contains every eerie episode of the original Gothic suspense series DARK SHADOWS (1966-1971) plus a wealth of bonus interviews with the stars and creative members that made the supernatural thriller a cult favorite and an enduring television classic.
Box Features:
131 DVDs with all 1,225 Complete Episodes
Commemorative large Coffin package (housing 22 amarays)
Deluxe booklet with episode summaries & photographs
Special Bloopers, Treasures & Behind The Scenes DVD s
Over 120 Bonus Cast & Crew Video Interviews
Autographed Postcard by Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins)
Limited Numbered Edition
Other features include nickel hinges, black ribbon to hold the lid when open, matte and foil coating
Box dimensions: (Coffin), 13 ½ L x 11 ¼ W (at widest) x 5 ¾ D.
Shipping carton dimensions, 16.5" x 8.5" x 14"
Weight Shipping carton with contents - 15.5lbs

MPI Has Decided by popular demand to also issue a NON-Limited Edition Box Set that will be released July 10th 2012 that will be idenitcal but minus the autographed Postcard and the set will not be a limited numbered edition. Cost will remain the same.

The episode with the blooper removed has been corrected for this new complete series boxed set. When Worldvision, the syndicator for television reruns of Dark Shadows, made new digital masters a few years ago, that blooper was edited out by a well-meaning technician by mistake.

Otherwise they are the same DVD masters as the original individual 4-DVD sets issued over the past 10 years. The restored episode 211 will appear in the complete series DVD set as a bonus in the exact same context as in the 4-DVD sets, at the end of the pre-Barnabas episodes in the "Beginning" portion of the DVDs.

[Show spoiler]This is going to be a real test of where BD consumers are.

This was not only shot on video, it was shot on pretty poor video and is extremely rough. Rough to the point where they had to put disclaimers at the beginning of many of the DVDs.

The only real reason to do this is to turn 120ish dvds into 15-20 BD50s.

I'll be very interested to see how both reviewers and consumers respond.

Doh - Never mind

Well this is for the DVD Box Set. It has been said on other forums it will be in a Coffin Shaped Box. Since these were all shot to video and yes poor quality, I can see why there isn't news of a Blu-Ray Edition and like you said the only cause would be to put more episodes per disc.

I pre-ordered my set since I am currently on VOL 6 of the Series (this is beyond THE BEGINNING Series Volumes) Not sure if the Full Box Set will also contain the original 6 Volume Sets known as THE BEGINNING

So the Full Box Set even though I have bought a total of 12 Volumes will still be cheaper than purchasing the volume sets.

If they ever did a Blu-Ray release, I'd definitely be a top contender for the worst image on Blu. I saw a color episode on TV and couldn't believe how crappy it looked.

This is a cool little show. I've only watched the first few episodes off Netflix, they start with the ones that introduce Barnabas Collins, but I'm a sucker for old black and white horror. I'd love to see these on Blu-ray, even if no work was done on them...simply to cut down on the sheer number of discs this series must be.

This will be one to keep an eye out for and think about. It's hard to justify buying something like this for that price when I can stream episodes off Netflix for $8 a month.

I own the entire series on DVD already. It's on 32 volumes (takes room) Yes the video qualtiy and sound quality is from aveage to very bad. Certain episodes (specialy before the arrivale of Barnabas) have been lost and what they used was the telecine or something like that. These are extremely bad to look at. I wonder if these will be improved a little but I doubt very much they can do anything.

Still the series is fun, keeping in mind it was a soap opera running from Monday-Friday and so things move very slowly

Dark Shadows with bloopers built in wherever they occur. My wife and I watched these (Netflix). At some point it got very tedious but we stayed the course. Some of the bloopers will make you howl like Sir Larry Talbot.

Amazon Are taking pre-orders for the Box Set... I would expect it to be for the NON- Limited Edition Box Set

More News from http://www.tvshowsondvd.com

"...there are going to be TWO "coffin" sets. As originally announced, the first one will be available on April 10th, and is a "Limited Numbered Edition" that includes an "Autographed Postcard by Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins)." That item is still on, and retailers will begin delivering it to customers a week after this coming Tuesday. The studio informs us that fans who ordered it directly from MPI's special advance Dark Shadows fan club mailing have received the set early, and we can confirm that we've heard from multiple fans in the past two days who say they have their set in-hand.

But here's the rub: MPI tells us that this first set with the Signed Jonathan Frid Card, even before the official street date, is as good as "sold out." Pre-orders from retailers have been so high that all the Limited Numbered Editions (there were apparently 2500 made, as one of our readers who had a copy already said his set was marked "#n out of 2500") sold out even before they were shipped from the plant. Of course there will always be some customers who pre-order a title and don't follow through with their purchase at the end, so - as our MPI contact put it to me - resourceful fans might be able to find a few sets remaining at various retailers. You'll probably have to look around, though. Good hunting!

Since interest is so high, though, MPI doesn't want to disappoint fans who missed on the first set, so they are going to offer a SECOND version of the set. The important information I overlooked is the description about what makes this second set different from the first. After all, the set still comes in the coffin packaging, still contains the same number of discs, and costs the same. What was different? This wording from MPI explains: "This Deluxe Edition does not include an autographed postcard from Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins) or a Limited Edition serial number." [note: emphasis is ours]

The May 8th date mentioned in the press release a few weeks ago was meant to be the original release date for this SECOND set...but we even got confused at that time, because at the same time as we received the press release we also got a new image of the FIRST set...which we now know it is because the image includes the Autographed Postcard by Jonathan Frid in the picture. But that wasn't MPI's intention, and we wrongly put those together and said the first set was delayed. Nope, our mistake again...that was for the second set. And then the second set got pushed back from May 8 to July 10th. The reason for that delay on the SECOND set, we're told, is because "the custom coffin boxes are big and heavy and made overseas, and manufacturing and shipping take time."

So the second set of Dark Shadows - The Complete Original Series will be available as an "unlimited" release on July 10th, while the original first set of Dark Shadows - The Complete Original Series: Limited Numbered Edition will be available on April 10th. We hope that this clarifies things, and we regret any confusion due to our errors. Mea culpa. The unlimited set isn't up for pre-order yet, but here are links to pre-order the limited set...maybe you can still get lucky!"

It still shows the limited version available for pre-order on Amazon's website. Anyone know what's the deal with this.....If their is only 2500 made how are so many sellers selling them on Ebay and Amazon still has this available for pre-order?

Wow, I would love to get this! I used to watch it every day after school as a kid I took this pic down by the water near my house a few weeks ago. Anyone recognize it?

Yes, it is impressive. It's "Collinwood", the estate they used for exterior shots during the series. Still feels spooky every time I see it

Now who owns the Lyndhurst Estate Blu? I thought I had heard back in the day that the creator of DS actually owned it? Although that could have been rumor. I had actually heard he and Kathryn Scott Leigh were married and can't find anything to concrete that either?
