By most rumors and speculation, the 360 Premium plus one of these HD-DVD drives would equal the MSRP of the $500 PS3 thereabouts.
Two things to remember: The HD-DVD device for the 360 will be completely optional. A lot of gamers, frankly, couldn't care less about either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. From a gaming standpoint, the 360 is easily the better bargain. I still have half a mind to believe that HD-DVD add on may never see the light of day. Honestly, I won't believe it until I actually see it, at the rate things are going. I certainly can't see it going for more than $200, tops. |

I think microsft enjoys losing money on gaming consoles.

They supposedly have a self imposed deadline of 2007 to make a profit on the Xbox project...
The add on drive for the 360? Can't see it flying off the shelves to be honest. Another box, another cable, it's just ugly. |

Most people got extended warranties on their systems, they can take it back during the holidays and say it's broken, and get a new one with the add-on.
And I think MS is more concerned with new sales on systems and being able to claim they can do all the PS3 can do than worry about current 360 owners, sadly. |

MS have offically said there will not be a 360 with built in HD-DVD drive.
What would the point be? it only plays movies and gives no other advantage to the console. Plus, MS are criticising Sony for their price, so I can't see MS increasing the cost of the 360!! Surely, if anything, they will try to reduce it by the end of the year to make the 360 more attractive. I've said in another post, I don't believe MS have any interest in HD-DVD, it's just a useful tool to niggle Sony - and if HD-DVD falls flat on its face, then for MS it is also a disposable tool (by keeping the drive external). MS don't have the b@lls or the faith in the format to release a 360 with one built in. |
