Default Doomsday Preppers

New survival show from National Geographic.

http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...sday-preppers/

Quote:
Doomsday Preppers explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Unique in their beliefs, motivations, and strategies, preppers will go to whatever lengths they can to make sure they are prepared for any of life’s uncertainties. And with our expert’s assessment, they will find out their chances of survival if their worst fears become a reality.
Airs on Feb 7th, 9PM EST, Nat Geo channel

I'll check it out. These people fascinate me. I'm sure if I was rich enough I'd build an underground bunker for safety or just hire Batman.

This is nothing new people like this have been around since the 50s and duck and cover. its just for ratings the sad thing is most of these people have no clue how to survive in a real situation like the lady with all the food I hope she has an arsenal to protect it.

This does look to be a fascinating show, I already have my DVR set to record it.

Exactly. Just watch "The Road" blu-ray if you want to know what it really would be like.

The sad part is .. when nothing happens, many of them will actually be depressed.

There is this weird urge from many at an instinctive level to want to see the end of everything, as in "it all ends with me". The survival fantasy is huge in the US (and other parts of the world), as demonstrated by the on going theme of the "Zombiepocalypse".

Kinda reminds me of the intro of a high tech show that I saw a long time ago (can't remember the title of the show itself hehe) in the 90s that started with a busy city street packed with people going to their job, while it was grey and raining. The (female) Voice over was saying something like "The announced end of our world, the prophesied nuclear apocalypse feared by so many in the 70s and 80s ... It has not come to pass, and showing no sign of being anywhere near. We survive, and continue our everyday struggle. On ... and on ... and on."

I thought that despite a positive message (no nuclear apocalypse) the tone sounded so weirdly depressed that it stuck with me.

I'd say you're right ^

An old family friend went batshit insane when Y2K was coming 'round. He closed down his body shop, moved to his house in Maine. Spent his life-savings on guns & ammo, water, food, etc etc. I only saw him twice in the year before Y2K but each time he was more paranoid than before. He started carrying several weapons on his person including mini one shooters and hidden knives and such. Of course nothing happened and I only saw the gentleman once after that and he was a mess. Tragic.

Anyone see the special they ran on G-4 about people who were preparing for the zombie apocalypse? I have no idea if it was played straight or for laughs since I never saw it and can't find it online other than brief clips here and there.

I don't think these types of shows are meant to.
