The Hunger Games Blu-ray Review

The Hunger Games Blu-ray

The Hunger Games Blu-ray Best Buy Exclusive

Early information from a retailer suggests that this title will be released mid-August on the 18th in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

Discuss anticipations for this movie and any comparisons between this and the books, so long as you please use spoilers for any potential ones. Thanks!

Wow!

I honestly did not expect to see a thread of this (let alone a date) for at least 6 weeks.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporters have both posted reviews that are mostly positive. Both basically say the film is "good enough".

I want an all black Steelbook with the Mockingjay logo embossed in gold in the center. That would look pretty sick

I fear the release of this because this type of film is prime for more than one exclusive; if I enjoy the movie even half as much as I loved the book, it's going to be difficult to choose which release to go with.

Well I have pretty high hopes for this movie, especially since Suzanne Collins was involved in the production. I have watched quite a few cast interviews and it seems nearly all of them are big fans of the books and wanted to keep the movie as faithful as possible. I guess we will see how true that is next week when were all trying to find a seat among all the giggling teen girls. I'll just be happy to finally have an excuse to wear the mockingjay pin that I bought.

I hope there's a director's cut or whatever with some unrated footage or something. I too loved the book and looking forward to seeing it in theatres.

Truth be told I haven't watched a single trailer or promo for this. I kind of want to go into it blindly

I'm trying to hold off on passing judgment before seeing the film -- my first midnight premiere! -- but my only concern is the rating. I hope, despite the PG-13, they're able to maintain the darker tone the material requires. As long as the violence isn't downplayed too much, I'm sure I'll be fine.

You have to remember that they were contractually obligated to deliever the film with a PG-13 rating.

I'd be willing to bet the 'release date' changes, I find it very odd a studio would announce a release date for a film that has not even been released theatrically.

Agreed! It seems they're jumping the gun a little bit.

That is a 5 month window and comes in with a couple weeks of summer vacation for the kiddos still left. Seems like a perfect release date to me unless they want to wait until late November.

I'm pretty sure it won't come out on August 18th for the simple fact that that's a Saturday

I'm worried about multiple exclusives as well, since I'll be tempted to get them all

It sounds as it will be fairly close to the book, especially since Collins had involvement in the screenplay. I'll be wearing my Mockingjay pin as well.

I only watched the first trailer to see how it was going to be. After that I avoided all the newer trailers since I wanted to not spoil too much more.

I think that the availability of exclusives may be contingent on its performance at the box office. Even though initial reviews by critics are strong, it still remains to be seen whether that will translate into solid results at movie theatres. I, for one, am hoping that it does well so that retailer exclusives will be offered (hopefully something more than just a slipcover variant).

There's been Saturday releases before. Happy Feet Two is a Saturday I think. The Twilight films were usually a Saturday too.

It's very rare though and when you couple that with the fact that we're getting one so early I'd say there's a pretty good chance it isn't accurate. August sounds like a good time to release it, but I'd bet it wouldn't be the 18th. I'd predict the Tuesday after that, or preceding it.

A handful come out on Friday sure.

This just seems like some placeholder date a retailer thew up so it could begin taking pre-orders, nothing more.
