Default NYG, I need your help!

I got the Toshiba A-1 and hooked it up via DVI with an HDMI adaptor. It will play one HD-DVD at 1080i after I plug it in, and after that, it won't output at 1080i at all. It will output over component, though. You said you had the same TV I did (55" Mitsubishi CRT), so I was wondering how you have yours set up. Thanks!

Toshiba > HDMI to DVI cable > Mits

Not understanding why it'll play one movie but not the next. I do know that HDMI is touchy. In order to ensure I have no problems with playback of an HD DVD movie I always turn the Mits and set the input to MonLink (DVI) prior to turning on the A1. I also turn the A1 off before turning the Mits off. If I turn the A1 on before turning on the Mits sometimes I'll get an HDMI error. I've also given the A1 the firmware upgrade disc from Toshiba. I haven't had the slightest glitch since, other than of course if I accidentally turn the TV off before ejecting a disc and turning off the player. I'm using a cheap $20 DVI>HDMI cable but unfortunately I don't have the receipt in front of me to tell you which one it is or where I got it from.

Turns out it was a problem with the player itself, not the connection. I've already got it replaced. I'm using the DVI cable that came with my Oppo. Getting great pictures out of it. I'm loving this machine.

When BD matches HD-DVD quality, I'll be right there with them. They've got to clean up this soft-launch, though.

Yeah I know all about problem players. Glad to hear you've found a better replacement already.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for a great Denon dual format player. Until then, even Lawrence of Arabia couldn't get me to buy BD unless the player prices went way down (and even then I'd wait until 2nd gen for better 1080p support and HDMI 1.3).

Man a Denon Universal Player would be the bees knees. I'm glad HD is finally upon us. First must buy new HDTV second must get HD players third must get HD camcorder.
