Australia Boogie AKA Boogie, el aceitoso 3D Blu-ray (2009) [Region Free]

Boogie the oily

Boogie 3D Blu-ray

Boogie 3D Blu-ray 5.1 French / Spanish. No English.

Boogie 3D Blu-ray 2.0 German / Spanish. No English.

Boogie 3D Blu-ray MOD. Reported glitchs.

Watched this tonight, the 3d is really good. Lots of depth between the layers through out the movie and a bit of pop out.

Perhaps 3/5 for move but 4.5/5 for 3d.

Worth a watch if you are a big fan of quality 3d and it has a very sarcastic but sometimes funny theme running through it.

Anyone else seen Boogie 3d and care to comment?

I think it is reigon B only, not sure. However, I wouldn't mind a blind buy if it was sold in the US. Boogie 3D

The English dub was a bit weak but the 3d was very impressive, as it tends to be with smaller companies. The 3d is used to make the characters look like cardboard cutouts against the backdrop and it really adds to the story. Lots of bullets flying out of the screen etc and when you remove your glasses at almost any point it is extremely blurry giving you a good idea of the use of 3d. Would look great on a projector.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering what is the best English-friendly release for this? The database lists no English subs for the French/German editions. I'm thinking the Australian release? Anyone own these editions?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, normally I try to go for original language audio, but no English subtitles limits the options for me.

Dubbing is never ideal. Not completely terrible dubbing though and I guess the fact its a cartoon makes it a little more bearable.

Default Boogie 3D

I did a blind buy of this on ebay the other day because it sounded iteresting. Anyone familiar with it?

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/151572828218?...84.m1439.l2649

I've avoided looking for any youtube videos, so that it is new to me when I watch it, but I did read some reviews that sounded promising.

Boogie 3D
2009 - Icon Film Distribution Pty Ltd
Director: Gustavo Cova
Starring: Pablo Echarri, Nancy Dupláa, Nicolás Frías, Marcelo Armand, Rufino Gallo, Diego Brizzi, Ricardo Alanis and Luciana Falcón
Movie: 4 Picture: 4.5 Sound: 4.5 Extras: 0.5

Finding good 3D movies on Blu-ray has been a bit hard. Some movies appear to have been released in 3D primarily to give them some kind of a selling point ... any kind of a selling point!

But here we have something totally different, and if you have a sufficiently twisted sense of humour, very, very funny. Boogie 3D is available on Blu-ray only in Blu-ray 3D format, although it plays in 2D as well. Never heard of it? Neither had I. It is an animated movie released in 2009 based on a long-running Argentinean comic. The title character is known in Spanish as 'Boogie, el aceitoso', which means 'Boogie, the Oily'. The hero lives only for the pleasure of killing, which he does with a reasonable panache and a dry sense of humour.

Think Sin City, but grittier and with no moral redemption whatsoever. This movie is rated R for its 'High impact animated violence', but I suspect was rated R for its extreme political incorrectness.

The animation is 2D, with naively drawn, black outlined characters over rich, textured backgrounds. From time to time there is a little posterisation, but generally it is smooth and beautifully rendered.

The 3D is primarily in the form of layered 2D elements, but for all its simplicity it looks excellent, adding a level of richness to the 2D version. At a couple of points there was a slightly weird look where characters appeared to be floating free of the floor upon which they were supposed to be standing. That was largely due to the application of 3D layering to essentially 2D animation. This meant that the whole of a person had to be in one plane, from head to foot. If the floor was to appear behind the person's head, as it should, then it would also appear behind his feet.

Most of the time this problem was avoided by simply having the frame cropped in such a way as the protagonists' feet were generally not visible.

The audio is underpinned by a driving hard rock sound track, with clear dialogue and lots of subwoofer activity. The movie has been dubbed in English by what seem to be native Spanish speakers. The accents are subtle, but the enunciation is careful and measured, rather than natural. Sometimes the pronunciation is fun - putrid comes out as 'putt-rid'. A quotation from Apocalypse Now is changed to something only vaguely similar through the double translation from English to Spanish to English.

All that just adds to the charm.

This movie literally came out of the woodwork here in Australia but upon some further investigation, this film from Argentina is actually a cult classic in that country and in small circles across the globe. And after watching Boogie 3D, I think the same thing will happen here!

The story is actually based on the ideas of Robert Fontanarrosa, the creator of the comic book which follows protagonist Boogie, a rather shady, abusive and violent character. Boogie is a master in killing and he has fought all over the world from Vietnam to the Gulf War and he sums it up perfectly by saying "I've been in ever #$%ing war in the 3rd world".

Ironically this movie was also the first 3D animated movie to be created in Argentina and on our Samsung 3D, the 3D effects come look quite impressive. The film itself is directed by Gustavo Cova who turns this movie into a graphic novel that at times jumps out of your TV.

In terms of story, Boogie is at times a little confusing and I'm not sure whether this was the conversion from Spanish to English or just the whacked out nature of what was happening. In laymen's terms, Boogie is basically an anti-hero and when he declines a "hit" from the local Mafia because the money was not enough, he gets insulted when they hire a cheaper hitman.

To smooth his ego, Boogie decides to kidnap the witness whom he was originally hired to kill and it turns out that the witness is Marcia, the ex-girlfriend of Sonny Calabria, the mafia boss. There is a type of romance between Boogie and Marcia which eventually leads out to a ridiculous and quite over the top gun battle as the Mafia attempt to kill Marcia.

Of course, Boogie comes to the rescue and needless to say, this gunfight near the end of the movie is probably one of the most impressive 3D scenes in the entire film. It's a classic love story... not! Definitely one for the connoisseurs of whacky animation and 3D... or those folks who need more 3D content! Go Boogie Go!

Video, Audio & Special Features

The video quality is super clear with vibrant colours, great yet simplistic animation and some animation to ... die for! I love the stylised art rendered in this presentation which also go hand in hand with the CGI effects for 3D. Audio is equally as impressive through its HD-DTS soundtrack that BOOMS through the surround sound speakers. Unfortunately there are no special features included in this release.

I have the Australian version - the slip cover isn't your usual replication of the box art, it's almost entirely transparent plastic with a small blue border.

I wouldn't want to sell it though, unless it's an offer I can't refuse...

I'm curious about this movie and would like to hear more reviews about story and 3D effects. Also, how is this movie rated for content and appropriate age?

It's a violent, sexist low-budget adults-only cartoon with some dodgy 3D moments here and there (characters occasionally appear to float on the background) but also plenty of excellent pop-out 3D (bullets fly out of the screen).

Storywise its nothing original, standard hitman stuff, but the dubbing, 3D effects and overall politically incorrect tone make it highly entertaining.

There are other threads with more detailed reviews if you search the forums.

Does anyone know about the details of this release? I can't seem to find any info anywhere whether it has english subs or even it includes both the 3D and standard presentation.

I just saw this available at Bestbuy.com. Does anyone have this? If so, is it worth a purchase? Here is a description on amazon.com.

"Boogie is a violent and ruthless hit man who follows his own rules. Women love him, criminals fear him. Exploding with irony, alcohol, and non-stop bullets, this is an action-packed, jaw-dropping animated film."
