Exclamation Alright, so - given the release of the new Panny...

I just purchased the BD10A 2 weeks ago - given that its been discontinued and the DMP-BD30 is due to be released in a few days, should I return the 10 and wait for the release of the 30?

As far as specs for the 30, all I know are the ones listed on this thread:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...light=dmp-bd30

Id hate to lose those 5 free movies, though.

When you bought a BD10A it came with 5 movies free inside the box. PotC 1 and 2, Crash, F4, Transporter.

Im still losing 5 movies here, lol - 5 instant ones as opposed to the 5 'take-forever' ones.

It will depend on the specs of the 30 once it comes out, I think.

The question is, has the Panny DMP-BD30 actually been officially announced?

I've listed it as coming Q4 but in the next few days?

I doubt it. Is it even up for pre-orders anywhere?

There is absolutely no hard info on this player, its all rumour so far. We have a model number but thats it. Sorry.

My guess is a late Nov release date.

Looks like the official announcement will be Oct 30th.

Hope this is a 1.1 player to silence all those HD-DVDers.

Before returning it, I say you keep the 5 discs that came with the player...act stupid if they ask. Also, id cut out the bar code and mail in for the other 5 free, then when you get the new BD30 mail in for another 5. thats 15 movies!

My dad returned his PS3 (broken disc drive issue) with the barcode cut off...nobody said a word...he got those 5 free in the mail also the 5 free for the next PS3 he replaced it with.

...but thats just me.

I think that's classed as fraud.

I like to think of it as restitution for selling a defective product and making him waste his gas and time by returning it.

Personally, if you have it I would keep it. A bird in the hand and all that. Besides, you probably got it at a pretty good price (as even a few months ago they were priced right) and not 'upgrade' for a few years.

Any big advances in technology wont be on the upcoming Panasonic to justify spending more money and losing the titles. Getting POTC 1 & 2 for free was nice. Transporter, Crash and Fantastic Four as well.

The only way I would get the new Panasonic is if it had Ethernet.

If you bought the 10a at Best Buy, don't even think about it. There was a corporate memo sent out about just this. Many BB stores were had for the 5 free movies, and therefore had difficulty selling the Panasonics open box without sever markdowns because of it.

They are now checking for this, and if the UPC is cut fromt he box you may have difficulty getting a refund. Depends on the CS rep/MOD.

Circuit City is where I bought it, actually. It was $50 cheaper than at BB.
