Multiplayer games for PS3? - Blu-ray Forum

Hi all,
I will begin by saying that I have no experience with any gaming console but considering getting one. My question is if there are any games for PS3 that I can play with a friend, on the same console/tv? For instance, I would like to be able to play an F1 game with my son. Or a flying simulator, or something like that. And if yes, how is this being done? Is the screen split in two so each player sees their own?

resistance fall of man (1st person shooter) has a split screen where you can play against your son, warhawk (flying game, with ground combat too) is online only, but will support multiple players at the same time, you can also do a LAN with warhawk (split screen). all sports games have multiplayer (you won't have a split screen). that f1 game you mentioned has multiplayer (will have a split screen. super stardust hd is multiplayer w/o split screen and that game is awesome with multiplayer, because you really have to communicate with him (your on the same team).

I would suggest Warhawk... flying, driving, running around with guns, and godfights. It's lots of fun and it's multiplayer only.

Dont get Warhawk!!! 2 many losers that rank up. It has this concept called higher rank harder to kill. so you get people to rank up and when you shoot them 50 times they will just turn around and shoot you once and your dead. A WASTE OF MONEY!

My kids like playing Virtua Fighter 5 - both players combat on-screen.

Sports games in general let you do that. Tiger Woods Golf is great for multi-player.

You obviously haven’t played this game... if you got FRAG'ed it’s because you weren't playing well enough to kill him first (that’s hit him with all the little pixels firing out of your gun/pistol). I have almost 30hrs game play logged and your comment is unfounded…

Resistance Fall of Man: Great replay value in single player and Multi-player is great!
Warhawk: is a must have multi-player only, so fun it's addictive!
Haze: 4 player coop in campaign plus multiplayer (can't wait for this one, out Nov. 27th)
Army of Two: Two player coop through the entirety of the game, no word as yet on multiplayer?! (Nov. 13th).

And thats all i got...

Most multiplayer games have little things called noobs. Noobs tend to get owned, or pawned if you will. Noobs hate games where ownage can be easily obtained by more experienced players.

With that being said, don't let a noob tell you what multiplayer games to get.

Warhawk is by far one of the best/coolest games I've EVER bought.

Most of the sports games work that way (baseball, basketball, football, tennis, golf, etc.).

Can you provide a link to where this is documented - that higher ranks are harder to kill just because of their rank and not because their skill is higher?

That hasn't been my experience...it's usually because...

1. Your health was lower before engaging
2. Your not getting as many hits
3. Your using different weapons - which have different effects depending on range.
4. Depending on the area, smarter and/or more experienced players will grab health in the area and return to a fight with full health while your back to point 1.

I know The Darkness has online multi-player, but I never played. If you played Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution on PS2, I would not suggest Virtua Fighter 5, too much of the same.Motorstorm is a great racing game and now even better with all the add-ons. Warhawk is a good game, with a little learning curve for the Sixaxis. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas is enjoyable, expect some trash talk. Of course the best for last Resistance: Fall of Man.

Note: Motorstorms' multiplayer is online only. You can't play it with 2 people off the same PS3 since it has no split screen mode. Formula One Championship (PS3) is the same; allows multiplayer via online, but you'll need two PS3s and two TVs since it doesn't do splitscreen.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is pretty nifty with two or more players at the same location if you're into comic book-themed gaming.
