A thread for listing 2.35:1/2.39:1 movies whose open matte version (16:9/4:3) version is available somewhere (DVD, Foreign Blu-ray or HDTV broadcast)
I can think of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (16:9 HDTV broadcast) Air Force One (4:3 DVD) Spiderman 3 (16:9 HDTV broadcast) Titanic (16:9 3D blu-ray) If it is an open matte then it would have to be a film shot in Super 35mm. Contrary to many here the reason for the format was a 2.39:1 version in cinemas and a 1.33:1 version for TV's back in the 1990's for the most part. Examples are Terminator 2, Showgirls, Terminator 3, etc. I have no problem at all with a 1.78:1 version of any of these films. If they are cropping Panavision films that is not open matte. Not sure of full specs, but I think this Canadian Se7en just might fit the thread. |

I know several of the Rocky Series DVDs were dual sided discs with 4:3 open-matte on one side.
Some of the early Pxiar films, like A Bugs Life had alternate 4:3 version rendered (ya I know that is not open-matte, but it is a whole unique rendering/view of the film). |
