...which would be you folks. Here's the situation:
My tv only supports 1080i via DTV. I have a PS3 and it's hooked up to the DTV inputs and looks great. I have an optical cable hooked up to my stereo. As you know, I'm not going to get the best sound in this situation as my stereo is a few years old and does not have HDMI or support the new soundfields. So bit by bit I'll be upgrading. If I buy one of the new stereos, and still have the current tv/PS3 set up, will I be able to take advantage of the superior sound? Or would I have to invest in a stand-alone BD player? If I don't have to get a new BD player right away, is there a way to enjoy the lossless audio, or am I stuck in a rut until I get a whole new home theater: TV, Stereo, BD Player? Go easy on me, I'd love to be able to take advantage of what BD has to offer but it'll take awhile for me to be able to afford all the new gadgets. So and suggestions or help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. If you don't feel like replying here, feel free to PM me. OBTW, At the present I'm using the multi-a/v out. So I was wondering, could I use the HDMI output from the PS3 to plug into a stereo? Last edited by Paradiso; 10-15-2007 at 11:55 PM. |

whats DTV connection?? do you mean DVI?
There is only one way to hear lossless audio from the PS3 and thats HDMI connection. Yes you can buy an HDMI receiver and send the audio via hdmi to the receiver, while using component cables to your tv. It does work that way, so you dont have to upgrade your tv anytime soon, but I would definitely recommend a new HDMI receiver. |

Thanks!
My tv is a Mitsubishi WS-48513. Oh, and yeah, I meant DVI. That makes me feel better. I know a good stereo system is going to run me around $1000.00, but that's what saving up is for. I don't want to get into a whole thing where I'm charging stuff. Thanks again! |

This is how I have mine connected...
PS3 - HDMI cable -> Receiver - HDMI/DVI cable -> DVI input on my TV. Last edited by crackinhedz; 10-16-2007 at 03:18 AM. |
